Capitalist, socialist, or whatever, you have to admit that this is an extremely stupid hill to die on.
What’s the companies’ obsessions with in person office work anyway? Most companies reported anywhere from no productivity loss to improved productivity once they got into the swing of WFH, and now they don’t have to buy or rent office spaces. More importantly, most workers report lower stress, better morale, and more free time due to not commuting (which also has the benefit of cutting down on emissions). Seems like a win-win for everyone.
TBH this reeks of manager god complex. “I need the peasents in the office so I can feel better about my sad life by making the people under my management worse!”
Once you understand a 1/4lb of beef requires the same amount of water the average human uses showering for a month, the fact alternatives are easier on the planet is commonsensical. Beef should truly be a high priced commodity (~$300/lb at least) but thanks to the US government subsidies there are $1 burgers on every corner. At this point the only logical conclusion is the US government is attempting to see how fast they can deplete the world resources...
Just like cattle, which are much more massive than us, we can get all our needed carbs, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals from plants. One of the most insane stats when it comes to the beef industry is 3/4 of all crops grown in the US are used to produce feed for livestock.
Ideally we would switch 100% to vegan alternatives so then we'd have more than ample supply! Instead of a license for beef, how about something like if you havest it you take it to help eliminate hunger. I'm a vegan weightlifter (7 Years) and at 5'10" 185lb I can confidently say I feel better overall, more energized, and have no issues with protein deficiency.
It’s bigger than just Google as Passkey is being implemented by them, Apple, and other Big Tech, and it is all separate. Problems are you may not be able to switch between services, and it may force users choosing one of the Big Tech’s to use. Let’s hope more cross-platform providers like Bitwarden, Authy, etc come up with their version.
Yeeeeaah....I'm done with D&D and WotC. As is most often the case, when a thing I like becomes a giant megacorporation they start doing shitty things to the people that got them there in the first place. TTRPGs are a truly vast hobby, and I see no reason to give my support and business to a company willing to fuck over it's fanbase to make extra money - not when there are so many other great games/companies to support.
While I don't have access to the Fairphone (not in the US market), it's discouraging seeing how difficult it is for them to provide this sort of support. It also indicates that our society's values are still poorly placed when it's an uphill battle for a company to stand behind its products for an extended period of time.
Personally I have a Pixel 5, which goes EOL at October of this year after just three years. However, the current Pixel phones have a much better six years. Google took a different approach that only is available to a big player: they designed their own processor. I will likely go with another Pixel, since they have so far been good phones. But yeah, still not a great showing when I would like to keep my phone for a good decade.
I am now curious how much of the space can be freed up from removing things (without needing root). I have a Galaxy S20+ and was really thinking of upgrading this year, but until I know how much can be removed normally I will be staying with what I have. I guess the Ultra would at least have a chance at kind of negating the issue space wise. The extra cost is a hard one to justify though, especially since the S23+ in some big ways is like a downgrade compared to what I already have. I still can't believe that my 3 year old phone has more RAM than the new version. And the constant adding and removing micro SD card support is frustrating (even if I don't normally have one installed it is nice to have).
It also sucks that I really like the flat edges of the S23 and S23+ models over the curved non-sense of the Ultra. I have always liked the way the edges of the iPhone 4/4s/5/5s/12/13/14 look compared to the ones with rounded/curved backs (or in Samsung's case the fronts and backs).
Android strives to be a lightweight OS so it can run on a variety of hardware. The first version of the OS had to squeeze into the T-Mobile G1, with only a measly 256MB of internal storage for Android and all your apps, and ever since then, the idea has been to use as few resources as possible.
Emphasis mine. Now, I know graphics improvements and support for various versions of Android take up a lot of the space used, but gee willikers! It's amazing to think it began with storage requirements far under a single gigabyte.
Seriously? Marvel dialogues are among the cringiest possible, they could catch random people on streets and pay them to fix it and the effect would be probably much better.
