So so so so tonedeaf. Video where Linus is stepping down? Sure, throw it in as a laugh, heβs the butt of the joke, it was funny. Where youβre being accused of serious wrongdoing in public? Not so funny. Read the room, folks
Hard to imagine how a company that thought it was the right time to drop that joke could be fostering an environment of harassment towards employees! π¬
I think I heard that (and the jokes about the CFO being the βsponsorβ) had been trimmed out of the video (which I havenβt checked.) The first time I saw it (just about an hour after posting) it was still included and you could still see the value that Billet labs was giving for their prototype was still unblurred and there was a comment from the head of labs about how they were going to post some sort of transparency video behind a paywall (on Floatplane.) When I rewatched later that day (to show someone) they had blurred out the value, they still had the jokes about selling stuff. Iβm not honestly sure if they still had the thing about the plan for the paywalled transparency video. Later I saw a short reaction video to the drama that claimed all of those elements had now been removed from the LTT video.
I suspect that all the not Linus people were already working towards publishing a response like this to the Gamerβs Nexus video when Linus ran off wildcarding again and they then decided to rush out a video so they could clearly state that Linusβs response only represented Linusβs knee-jerk response and was not supported by or representative of LTT/LMGβs take. Soβ¦ It really really sucks that they responded to a situation created by them rushing and being sloppy by rushing and being sloppy but it may well be that if Linus had been kept under control they wouldnβt have and keeping Linus under control seems to be a big part of their strategy going forwards. I guess my point is itβs too early to judge whether the shift in internal power dynamics at LTT/LMG, refocusing their priorities and reducing their rate of output will actually solve the issues or not.
What I don't understand is this. The person owns the bookshop and is complaining about what is on the shelves.
Aren't they in charge of what they stock?
If they feel so fervently about this why are they stocking (and I assume selling) these books that offend them so much?
If you feel this strongly, empty your shop of all those works that offend you and only stock things that meet you approval and stop your bitching online about something you control...
I guess their response if you said to this to them would be that they actively are trying to do exactly as you suggest, hence the posts and with regard to the list of materials they seem to be sick of seeing, theyβd probably say this is what they continue to be offered from publishers when they try to stock their shop making the task difficult.
I donβt think from the posts alone thereβs necessarily a logical flaw or hypocrisy to what theyβre saying, but certainty an inflated sense of their own idea of what public opinion is and a very distorted understanding of what literature outside of the narrow confines of what they deem acceptable is for and about.
I think they maybe get some sense of how fucked up the sentences their position requires them to write sound when they have to clarify what they mean by recasting the thing they reject as something else that sounds worse, hence βinclusionβ becomes βanti-white exclusionβ because even they perhaps realised that itβs hard to sound like the good guy preaching against hate and division when you find yourself saying you donβt want any books featuring inclusion.
At this point, everyone should invest a fraction of that into automating youtube downloads. No ads, no buffering, and $200 will get you eniugh hard drive space for years.
As members of the media attempted to ask them how they felt about causing a panic, the pair refused to answer any questions not related to βhaircuts of the β70s.β
And as I remember, someone asked them more or less, what type of haircuts do you think you guys will be getting in prison? And whoever was going to answer the question genuinely hesitated and looked worried.
βAfter this brutal belittling, gaslighting, and sexual harassment, youβre gonna have a lot of baggage. And the best way to carry it? The LTT backpack!β
So I knew a woman who got divorced and got a big payment and became a drum making shaman who had the demeanor and speech of a valley girl build her artistic shamanic dream home in a destination spot.
The home was hand crafted out of sandbags and barbed wire. It was supposed to take a year but took 7. When it was done it was too hot and too cold and uncomfortable to live in. It was so bad that the building department told her it was a mistake.
She never had any dream catchers around and now that I think about it, one could have probably saved her from that mess.
Sounds like a βrammed earthβ home, and it also sounds like it wasnβt done very well. Taking 7 yrs is pretty nuts, as its supposed to be a βrapidβ building technique.
The 1ft+ thick walls should keep it pretty even temperature wise. Itβs one of its biggest pros, besides being literally dirt cheap.
This thing right here is practically 1800s death math metal: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJR0WF_vVmU β unfortunately this is the cut version and the full 10+ minute version doesnβt seem to be available anymore. Even more unfortunate that the pianist, who was born in Kyiv, turned out to want Russia to annex Ukraine.
Some years ago, I learned to play that bit at 1:10. That was a good moment.
Reminds me of that TNG episode where one planet has gotten the other planet addicted to a drug only they have, so they can have the addict planet make everything for them while they sit on their asses and do nothing except sell them that drug.
Just replace the drug in that episode with oil and honestly itβs pretty accurate for our world now.
When you scratch at the surface a little, the course of Capitalism always bends towards rent-seeking behaviors. Itβs enraging how not only are we trapped in this running-to-stand-still circus, but that every single aspect of our lives is getting monetized such that itβs nearly impossible to just not play the game.
This is my particular argument for the need for EULA and ToS law reforms. The concept that they are negotiable for consumers by means of abstinence is laughably outdated. It is unavoidable to have to sign a contract that you have no negotiation recourse over. All contracts are supposed to be negotiable before signing. There are so many abuses and frankly absurd liberties taken in those things that nobody should ever have to agree to just to play a game or use a website.
Seriously, a game publisher/developer having defacto ownership over the code you produce to make a mod for a game is ludicrous. Or a social media site getting the rights to use content for any purpose without limits and in perpetuity is insane.
Iβd argue that for most of the US it is necessary to have a car. We just have adequate public transport. Iβd much prefer that we did, but currently we do not. I suspect one could take an aerial photo of many arenas/stadiums located in densely populated cities in the US and they do not have much parking either.
Yeah, necessary to have a car in the US. But I like using public transit when possible. Especially when traveling to NYC. Itβs slightly faster to drive, but nothing beats the feeling of not having to park.
Also to be fair, we in Australia are far from being some car free utopia either.
We have heaps of car dependant urban sprawl in our major cities where the vast majority of us live. We are also adding more of this sprawl all the time.
On the plus side most of our state capital cities have got decent heavy rail networks which you can park at stations and ride.

Make a post? Make a post? Why don't I strap on my post helmet and squeeze down in my post cannon and fire off into Postland where posts grow on posties!
Every few years I try Dominoβs again to make sure my avoidance of them is justified and every time Iβm reminded how right I am. Before you think Iβm just a pizza snob, I like and semi regularly get Pizza Hut.
Pizza hut is definitely better than Dominos, but at least in here (Spain), itβs expensive as fuck, whereas Dominos is not that bad and itβs much cheaper.
Dominoβs is dirt cheap here in Australia. Until last year, they were still doing large pizzas for $5 (which works out to something like 3 euros). Theyβve gone up to $7 now, but thatβs still really cheap for a pizza that really isnβt that bad
Itβs actually insulting that theyβre still allowed to call what they serve as a large pizza a large pizza. Then they had the balls to offer an βextra largeβ for more money which was the size they used to be.
