#NowPlaying - had i been buying LPs in 1967 & only had debut albums to go by, there's a very good chance that country joe & the fish might've been my favorite #BayArea band, at least at first. way sharper, weirder, & more outwardly #psychedelic than the first albums by the dead, airplane, quicksilver, etc. (though "surrealistic pillow" came out before it). should probably revisit their earlier EPs. @vinylrecords@Corry342

The Paul Kagan cover photos are the only known interior shots of The Barn in Scotts Valley, CA (near Santa Cruz). Lights by the Magic Theater. The negatives were reversed so that the guitarists appear left-handed.
The “maximum bite” will be taken out of the sun at 11:13 a.m. PST to about an hour later, and the event will officially end at around 12:16 p.m. PST, according to Andrew Fraknoi, an astronomer and board member of the SETI Institute.
San Francisco has many Cantonese / Toishanese restaurants, but you’ve got to get to Millbrae, South Bay, deep east bay (Milpitas) for regional Chinese food outside those.
Royal Feast, an unassuming spot right by Millbrae BART, offers ‘a modern interpretation on Sichuan and Tanjia cuisine’
Tanjia being ‘Tan Family cuisine’ (unrelated to me, but who knows), the courtly Chinese cuisine of Beijing. Truly an exceptional Chinese meal
The flatlands of Santa Clara County can expect 3" of rain over the weekend. Cancel your plans and stay home, folks. It's going to be ugly. #SiliconValley#BayArea#BayAreaWeather
Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! Wetlands are superheroes—they prevent flooding & erosion, provide vital habitat for wildlife, sequester carbon, and filter out pollutants!
But, sadly, the Bay has lots 90% of its historic #wetlands over the past century. Which is why we need to make sure to preserve those remaining and restore the wetlands we've lost.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We typically refer to our region as "the Bay Area" as if that was actually a distinctive name.
Just out of curosity, what other places also refer to their region as "The Bay Area?"
I know of one and it's totally messed me up before because I used to travel there for work a couple of weeks a year. The DC, Virginia, Maryland region is also referred to as the Bay Area and they even have a "Bay Bridge" like us.
It was that they also had a Bay Bridge that truly messed me up when I was there. Being a West Coaster transported to the East Coast to a place that used the same terminology to refer to themselves, it felt like everything was upside down and I'd sometimes get confused as to which Bay Area people were referring to.
Starting with the Hungarian capital of Budapest which, to my surprise, was actually Buda & Pest across the river from each other. Do Dallas-Ft. Worth say, "Darn it, Twin Cities is taken. I guess we'll have to be The Conjoined Municipalities"?
How about Niagara Falls, NY vs Niagara Falls, ON, across the international border? Maybe each is a Niagara Fall and together they are Niagara Falls?
@potungthul Wait, Budapest was originally two cities and they decided to tie the knot and basically went with hyphenated last names?
Are there any other adjacent cities that use the "Twin Cities" alias? I've only ever heard it used to refer to Minneapolis/St. Paul. For most of my adult life I wasn't sure if Minneapolis and St. Paul were one or two cities.
I had no idea there were two Niagara Falls, but reading a bit about their history, it doesn't sound like they'd be amenable to the name "Twin Cities" given how different each Niagara Falls is.
What's funny about Niagara Falls is that neither side was named Niagara Falls originally. The US side was settled first and incorporated first. It was a series of villages that joined together into a city. A few years later, the same thing happened on the Canadian side.
