hobbypaedagoge,
@hobbypaedagoge@pnpde.social avatar

@dnddeutsch Es ist einfach, ja. Aber ich mag das zwischendrin als meditatives Spiel ganz gerne. Einfach für sich was Schönes machen. 20 Minuten. Ist wie Chakra. Da mag ich das auch sehr. Hier ist es auch weniger konfrontativ.

I wired my little... don't even know exactly what they are... cypress? yesterday.

I almost broke some branches because they are sooo soft. I hope that, with a little cut past, the'll heal again.

Used silver wire because it's easier to find when it's time to remove again. And because those are not finished bonsai anyway.

@dtanzer @bonsai ah these baskets again 👍
Good luck to your redwood trees 🤞
Also thanks for sharing, love to see more bonsai in the making :)

Remember that that was mostly dead, but had one branch that still looked alive (https://social.devteams.at/@dtanzer/112115866964465809)?

It is still alive! Letting it grow this year so that it can heal its wounds, design choices come next year. But to paraphrase Peter Chen:

As long as you don't kill the tree, there are options.

@dtanzer @bonsai you'll have some amazing taper on this.

Today I pinched the tips from all the branches I want to keep of my , but not from the "sacrifice" branches I want to jin later. The idea is to stimulate dense growth and ramification in the branches I want to keep, and long growth and thickening in the branches I want to jin.

Will it work? I have no idea 🙈 😅 I guess I will find out! @bonsai

@dtanzer @bonsai Love your frequent updates, even though I have usually no idea what you‘re talking about 🙂

First bloom on my Magnolia today. It's reliably the first thing to bloom in the garden in early spring.

Picked up some nice material a the Lotus Nursery/Western Tree Nursery dig yesterday. Removed field soil, reduced roots, and wired into training pots.

rscbotanicalgarden,

Plant people, sad story time.

I just got an email from my local society notifying the death of a member. In fairness I did not know the person, but here's why it's sad:

When I attend, I am the youngest person there.

I'm 43, and the youngest person in the room.

This is true in many niche clubs. In the Dallas Society, I was the youngest. In the I'm one of a few under 60.

The median age of these groups has to be somewhere around 70. As they dwindle, we lose valuable experience. There will be no one to digitize their archives, no one to teach hands on skills, no one to pass the passion down.

I can't stress it enough, join the clubs. Access to their old magazines is worth the money and time.

Please enjoy this - a bit small perhaps for - but venerable nonetheless (I zoomed in and pasted the placard that notes its age - take a peek).

I think (please correct) from the translation that this is a Cypress maybe Hinoki (Juniper family)

Anthro,

, spring is in the air…

Even though there is snow and ice in the yard, bringing a flowering quince into the house to guard against hard freeze led to a profusion of buds, shoots and flowers in a week’s time.

Now what to do with this early bird?

Straggly quince with early shoots and flowers…with ice remaining just outside the window.

dtanzer,

Cleaned my juniper a bit and tried a different angle.

I used silver aluminium wire because it is currently not in a refined state anyway, and the silver wire reminds me of that.

Also, several of those branches are sacrificial branches - I'm planning to remove+jin them in the next 2-3 yrs.
