#brettspiele
Today I pinched the tips from all the branches I want to keep of my #juniper#bonsai, but not from the "sacrifice" branches I want to jin later. The idea is to stimulate dense growth and ramification in the branches I want to keep, and long growth and thickening in the branches I want to jin.
Will it work? I have no idea 🙈 😅 I guess I will find out! @bonsai
Bought this beech from a batch of cheap hedge plants. It was almost 2m high, but had very low branches, so I decided to chop it above the first branch.
Will it survive? Will it backbud enough so that I can make a very small #bonsai out of it? Will I be able to thicken the lower trunk more? Hope so!
Mr Cox has just started a channel for his lifelong bonsai hobby. If you’re into miniature trees, gardening or fancy a bit of slow telly, I invite you to take a look and maybe subscribe.
(Plus I helped with the filming and would equally love for you all to watch it. 😄)
My sister created this custom-made pot for my #juniper#bonsai - I really like it, fits the (future) form better than the very shallow, very wide pot I had before. @bonsai
Picked up some nice #bonsai material a the Lotus Nursery/Western Tree Nursery dig yesterday. Removed field soil, reduced roots, and wired into training pots.
I just got an email from my local #rockgarden society notifying the death of a member. In fairness I did not know the person, but here's why it's sad:
When I attend, I am the youngest person there.
I'm 43, and the youngest person in the room.
This is true in many niche clubs. In the Dallas #Orchid Society, I was the youngest. In the #Bonsai I'm one of a few under 60.
The median age of these groups has to be somewhere around 70. As they dwindle, we lose valuable experience. There will be no one to digitize their archives, no one to teach hands on skills, no one to pass the passion down.
I can't stress it enough, join the clubs. Access to their old magazines is worth the money and time.
#haiku ⚪ 70
Die Wurzeln gekürzt
mit ritueller Sorgfalt.
Kulturzauberding!
Please enjoy this #bonsai - a bit small perhaps for #ThickTrunkTuesday - but venerable nonetheless (I zoomed in and pasted the placard that notes its age - take a peek).
I think (please correct) from the translation that this is a Cypress maybe Hinoki (Juniper family)
Even though there is snow and ice in the yard, bringing a flowering quince #bonsai into the house to guard against hard freeze led to a profusion of buds, shoots and flowers in a week’s time.
One goal of any good bonsai practitioner is to try and make their small pampered trees look like they “have been through some stuff” to signify age and experience.
So an 85’ fir tree fell across our garage and backyard, landing on the spot I had just moved the bulk of my trees to, to protect from the wicked weather we were expecting.
If the initial fall didn’t do the “fir”st damage…the cleanup will complete it. Many trees with absolutely all limbs stripped down their trunks. One of the trees I have been working on the longest lost one of its two primary trunks.
