When SARS broke out in #Taiwan in ‘03, the WHO denied Taiwan’s request for the virus’ DNA to combat it.

The WHO told Taiwan’s health minister at the time to ask China.

#China refused the request and 137 people died in the following four months.

Taiwan has been denied WHO membership for five decades due to political reasons, says Dr. Chien-Jen, Taiwan’s Minister of Health at the time of the SARS outbreak.

This has cost Taiwan innocent lives.

timkmak,
@timkmak@journa.host avatar

Due to China’s opposition, has been excluded from almost all international organizations – such as U.N.'s convention on climate change, , and the World Health Organization.

The hasn’t accepted Taiwan’s membership for over five decades, not because of Taiwan’s qualifications, but for political reasons.

This has cost both Taiwan and the world a heavy price, causing irreversible damage and the loss of countless innocent lives.

’s opposition-controlled legislature passed changes on Tuesday that are seen as favoring and diminishing the power of the island’s president.

The changes pushed by the opposition Nationalist Party and its allies give the body greater power to control budgets, including defense spending that the party has blocked in what many see as a concession to China”

Week one in the new administration in , things are getting a bit concerning. We have on one side opposition parties tried to expand the legislative power

And separate China holds large scale military drills

China propaganda machine also putting pressure on Taiwanese entertainers working in China to conform

It's incredibly distracting and overwhelming situation...Taiwan gov should keep their vigilant eyes on all fronts

Apparently the threats to Taiwan by China have ended, for now. “China ended two days of war games around Taiwan in which it simulated attacks with bombers and practiced boarding ships, exercises that Taiwan condemned as 'blatant provocation'” https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/china-ends-war-games-taiwan-details-warplane-warship-surge-2024-05-25/

This weekend is perfect timing for the ‘axis of evil’ to exert their power to pursue expansionism. Putin likely told Xi that now would be opportune to threaten Taiwan. “Not to alarm anyone, but China has surrounded Taiwan with warships and aircraft and the DoD has issued two statements about it over the past hour.” -P McLeary

It took me a while, but I have successfully manipulated China's search engine, Baidu, to acknowledge, "Taiwan independent day" and "Independent Taiwan" without Baidu showing maps of Taiwan incorrectly being included as part of China. 😎

No idea how long it will last, but from America, with love.

(It was not hard. Their search ranks easily and all I needed was a few bots to favor the content I wanted)

China, which views democratically governed as its own territory, has denounced Lai's inauguration speech on Mon, in which he called on to stop its threats & on Tues Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called "disgraceful".

Lai has repeatedly offered talks w/ China but been rebuffed. He says only Taiwan's people can decide their future, & rejects Beijing's claims.

Frozen Garlic reflects on Tsai Ing-wen's eight years in office with a focus on her relationship with the military

"I think one of the biggest changes over the last eight years has been how the DPP – party elites, party loyalists, and ordinary people with slight DPP sympathies – thinks about the military."
