My 2 cents:

ALL car OSes (CarPlay, Android Auto, etc.) should support all users:

  • My phone should connect automatically as soon as I get in the car.
  • The interface should be recognizable, easy to navigate, and fast.
  • No crashes. Ever.
  • All my apps should be supported, especially music (Apple Music and/or Spotify) podcasts (no matter the app) and Maps (Google/Apple).

If not, it's just green bubble, blue bubble all over again.

@davemark I think the auto connect might be hard with multiple people in the car. But it will require someone to come up with an open standard for restricting apps and ensuring they view correctly. I just don’t think anyone wants to do that. I’m not sure it’s even possible to be that middleman when both car manufacturers and Google / Apple probably dont want to pay someone else.

@davemark Automatically connecting to your phone when you are a passenger is problematic. Determining if you are in the driver seat is difficult.

@the_other_jon Agreed. I’d love to solve that problem. But I’m OK with at least connect the first person into the car.
