@marcoarment That makes up my mind on a new MB Air. I'll wait for the m4.
I know you can always be waiting for better but if we're getting switches this fast, I might as well wait, the new one might be here in the fall and my M1 MB air is fine.
Fully expecting Apple to announce that the Apple Vision Pro is being rolled out in more countries later today. It would make sense to do that before WWDC, especially at an event where they’re rumored to announce an Apple Pencil that works with both the iPad and Apple Vision Pro.
@macrumors That's pretty slick and it still boggles my mind you can't really have just a watch and an iPad. Surely they might be missing out on some sales because of that for no good reason. Especially since they got around to bringing the health app to iPadOS.
@davemark I think the auto connect might be hard with multiple people in the car. But it will require someone to come up with an open standard for restricting apps and ensuring they view correctly. I just don’t think anyone wants to do that. I’m not sure it’s even possible to be that middleman when both car manufacturers and Google / Apple probably dont want to pay someone else.

@jeffgerstmann Gotta agree, the PS2 is a top tier system. I enjoyed the PS3 but maybe my opinion is more favorable than most people because I wasn't that bothered about online play and mostly used it like a glorified SNES / PS2 and despite the sadness that was game updates, well every system has those at that point.
@daringfireball I didn't get hit by this but I decided to check my significant locations. Oddly my home is not on there (of the ones I can see). But 2 pubs and a barbershop are. I haven't visited them in months but I guess I walk past them maybe every couple of weeks.
I'm a bit concern it's either picking the location of cell towers or something has gone wrong with my location tracking.
My home should be at the top of the list but my gym surely should be on the list too.
@daringfireball I think 8gb can be enough for basic usage people. It probably should be increased but at the very least make the upgrade to 16gb $50 instead of $200.
The bigger offence, imo, is the stingy 5GB of iCloud storage. The fact they give you extra for transferring your phone surely shows they know that 5GB is effectively useless.
Happy 4/17 to all who celebrate. They put Cheech & Chong into Call of Duty today. Here's what that looks like. I have some thoughts on this subject! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SedCtvIVTlg
@jeffgerstmann I can't think of anything more wrong than that. It might be acceptable if it were some models made for free like in the old Q2 / HL days.
@agiletortoise when you grow up with it you think little of it. There you live for years in a country that doesn’t do it and go back to the US, you end up thinking those ads are some of the most insane things advertised on tv.
You know 🤔 I'm starting to wonder if the growth folks only want us to federate with threads to bump the numbers. As success is measured by number of accounts with one log in to link them all.
Umm, you do realise you're doing what big tech does?
Reduce us to mere objects? To the metrics.
There are folks behind the accounts. Who join small tight communities.
Granted some are 3 raccoons in a trenchcoat but if they want to find an instance that doesn't federate with threads then why not?
@onepict My opinion is trying to do everything on the internet in a web way ruins it,
I think things should follow a classic internet style in that its open and the client chooses what they want to do. If someone wants to follow threads users then why should they not be allowed to? If someone wants nothing to do with threads people then that should be allowed.
I don't think we can really do that easily as long as we expect everything to go through a web service with web service thinking.
As a person who did not watch it, asking honestly, was “Game of Thrones” a good show, or a shared experience? No one seems to talk about it now, or want to rewatch it. Is it fair to put it in the “Lost” bin and not bother or should I consider it?
@agiletortoise I would say it's good, certainly the first half. I probably will go back to it but feels like it would get ruined going back too early.
I did that with Breaking bad as part of sharing it with people who never saw it. I've seen it too often and while it's easily one of my top shows, it's gonna be ages until I go back to it now.
Here's the archive of this week's batch of ranked NES games. Have you ever heard of a game called Operation Secret Storm? Forget the answer, it doesn't matter, either way you should see this thing running for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on4uR0N9T24
@sdw There may be some behind the scenes activity but either way it makes it looks like Apple has come undone in an attempt to keep things as they are.
It's not a good look even if there is something we don't know about that makes their behaviour right.
@stroughtonsmith I've got 24 downloads on visionOS. It's a bookmarking app so I'd argue it's not hugely valuable on a Vision Pro but I'm not sure how I feel about that. Until I have a real device, I kind of hope the numbers stay low. I'm guessing the experience is less than idea on a real device.
They state that customers "contractually consent" to such use, but good luck finding it in their Terms of Service. There also doesn't appear to be a way to withdraw consent, but I may have missed that.
If I wanted a Ford this Mustang E-Mach price would be very tempting. Don’t like the interior styling, no real hatch back and the rear seats are tiny. Nope.
@jamesthomson@cabel@gedeonm I wish transmit for iOS would come back even though logically I know it doesn’t make sense for their business. But if we get there by supporting a Portland shop, I’d give it a go.
SwiftData doesn't support models with unique attributes if you sync them with iCloud which really sucks, tbh. Does anyone have a strategy for dealing with this?
@simonbs@bigzaphod this is the right answer even if iCloud core data has the same issue with unique constraints.
I’ve pushed ahead with SwiftData on a new app. I think it might be a mistake but realistically I think the app will get released after WWDC so I’m kinda hoping they sort things out or it might be worse trying to undo SwiftData next August. 😅
@Migueldeicaza I think I prefer the sidebar one even if the sections look strong. The 3rd one with lighter rights looks nice too, in some ways I prefer it but it feels like I might be more likely to miss section names if I scanned over it quickly.
@halide@macrumors I kinda like that layout style but thinking about my iPhone X and typing on the table, won't that be more wobbly? I guess they just assume everyone uses a case now.
I know this is going to make me sound old – but I miss the internet.
The real internet. The one we used to have. Before it all got so much less – and somehow so much more – complicated.
I went online for the first time around 2001. The 90s had ended, and the world was coming online while I was coming out of my shell and becoming more self-aware.
