I’m keen to facilitate a series of monthly, online meetups about fediverse development.

What we’ll need for each meetup is;

  • 3-4 people willing to give a short talk with Q&A. I’d like to have a balance of technical, UX, and organisational topics

  • an MC

  • a conference server, ideally with support for livestreaming and hosting recordings for later viewing.

Anyone keen to help with this? More details here:

ActivityConf/ ActivityFed makes sense as a name for the proposed online conference, but I’d like us to come up with something more descriptive and fun for the monthly meetup name. Any suggestions?

Here’s an example, inspired by Open Tech Will Save Us;

Federated Freedom For Humans

Seems a little clunky, I think we can do better. But you get the idea.

(Boosts welcome)

david_megginson,

@strypey APfest.

> APfest or (better) FediFest

I'm a bit uncomfortable with these kinds of contractions. Maybe because they remind me of NewSpeak from 1984? For some reason I'm OK with this for a conference, but for the monthly meetup I'm looking for a phrase, like the examples I gave.

@strypey

I use as a concept/vision (not a name) to indicate the state where our offline and online worlds seamlessly integrate and are enriching to our daily lives.

In this, the name of the online space stays Fediverse, but is more technical. Same as "internet" is. Peopleverse is inherently human and social.

It is also not "the" Peopleverse, but "a" Peopleverse. It is diverse, there isn't but one. It can be personal. Emerging on the Fediverse.

May consider adopting the term

@strypey also, as mentioned, I offer https://fedi.foundation as a place you can use to publish pages related to upcoming and past meetups.

"Federated Diversity Foundation" relates to Social Coding (and "Coding Social", i.e. reimagining social online) and adheres to the vision of the Peopleverse.

It has a forum section at https://discuss.coding.social/c/ecosystem/fedi-foundation/17

So you have website + repo, forum all set up. Only need chat. Can use forum for prep, and then publish agenda + results to SocialHub.

Which term? Also, was that a suggestion or a mental note?

@strypey

Peopleverse. suggestion :D

OK. Can you suggest a phrase(s) with "Peopleverse" in it that could work as the name of a meetup?

@strypey

Umm 🤔

Peopleverse. Reimagine social

Fediverse to Peopleverse

Towards a Peopleverse

Peopleverse. Fedi and beyond

On Fediverse come Peopleverse

I would appreciate joining and talking about a project I've been working on and mentioning in passing, as well as testing

@ch0ccyra1n Please be noisy about reminding me of this if you notice nobody has got back to you.

We're getting suggestions, offers of help, talks etc from all directions, in the fediverse, matrix, on SocialHub and elsewhere, which is awesome, but a lot to juggle. We'll do our best to follow up with everyone, but we might drop a few balls here and there.

So far, the NZOSS instance of BigBlueButton has been tentatively suggested, and @tallship has also indicated some interest in helping supply servers.
