I've made a very talky video this time around, as I think explaining my particular brand of madness may help some.
I take you through my choice of where to place VoiceOver Hotspots so that I get the best out of quickly and efficiently.
Notice I say 'I' and not You.

As this is one of the most subjective videos I've ever made, I want to make it clear that this isn't so much Logic-related as it is Me-related.

What works for me may not work for you, and that's of course absolutely fine, but Hotspots in-general tend to go under-used by many VoiceOver users, so if this benefits anyone at all, I'll be happy.
Personally, I'm so much slower without them and get annoyed when they don't function as intended. That's one of the major downsides to such things, and for transparency I talk about that as well.
When they do work for me however, they are the fastest way to navigate Logic that I personally know of.

tuukkao,

@Onj No idea why someone wouldn't consider this to be essential. Reaper does have its problems but at least you can get pretty much anywhere with dedicated keyboard shortcuts. Coming from that the amount of interacting and un-interacting I would need to do with Logic is maddening.

Onj,
@Onj@mastodonmusic.social avatar

@tuukkao I love'em. As soon as I learnt how useful they could be, I never went back. If I have to spend 35 seconds setting them up at the beginning of a session, which is fast thanks to item chooser, I'm doing it.

Found out this morning that I cannot update Logic Pro to 10.8 unless I'm running at least MacOS Ventura. So I'm saying goodbye to Monterey after years of service and taking the plunge. I think I might loose a few plugins, but c'est la vie.

@GuitarSith @elsemusic Arturia makes the V collection, as well as several other bundles. The V collection is unbelievably good value.

@woolie @GuitarSith @elsemusic Couldn't agree more. It's absolutely fantastic.

Trying to copy some MIDI parts from one project in Logic to another. For some reason the exported MIDI part contains some additional info that messes up the instruments completely - I get the Massive instrument I want plus a Steinway grand piano at the same time. 🤬

So, figured I'd just open both projects at the same time and then hand paint the MIDI notes into a new track while looking at the old one. What a disaster! Logic becomes a bug riddled unworkable mess. 🤬🤬

@ambergrey
Exported the MIDI track from my original song, created a new project, then imported the MIDI into it. The imported track is a Steinway grand piano by default. I reset the instrument to Massive and selected the instrument patch I wanted, but it’s lost behind the piano. So basically I have to recreate the track from scratch.

When I do covers I try to work from a MIDI template that I export from Guitar Pro, but I’ve never changed the instruments, mainly because it’s just a guide.

This has actually become a really interesting project. It’s a song I wrote in 1980, then revived with some collaborators I worked with on Twitter in 2017. Because I worked with another lyricist in the 80’s I couldn’t use the original lyrics, and came up with a chorus but not the verses. I’m now determined to re-record it and complete the lyrics. While it started as a song about the pain of a break-up, I’m thinking I should channel my pain about losing Leia and make it about that.

with the latest ipadOS update, i am no longer able to record audio from my ipad to on macbook, via usb-c. it was tricky to figure out, but i've been doing it for weeks. not any more

says it's working, but it aint

on my imac, Sonoma broke my ability to use my Epson scanner. can't communicate with the scanner no matter how many times i uninstall and reinstall everything. the OS sees the scanner, but i can't connect with Image Capture, or Epson software

at work again

Pam often asks what i'm doing on the computer so much. the answer is the same every time: troubleshooting! fixing shit that didn't used to be broken!

Galley,
@Galley@mastodon.online avatar

@patamystic I’ve never been able to get my Epson scanner working with Apple Silicon. I still have a 2015 MacBook Pro that the scanner works with.

patamystic,
@patamystic@sfba.social avatar

@Galley my imac isn't Apple Silicone, though, i guess i'm lucky it worked as long as it did

historically, i have never had good luck with any printers or scanners on Macs. i have a 2 year old Canon Pixma that is reliable, but it's not good for scanning film

of course, the Epson, while working ok for a few months, also recently began introducing artifacts into my film scans

i wish computers and peripherals worked at least half as well as my fridges and kitchen appliances*

  • the same probablly doesn't apply for "smart" appliances but i don't buy those

I am trying something new with #LogicPro for podcasting. I am curious if adding markers will add chapters when I export to MP3. Do you all know if this is the case? Logic is such a cool program.

DHSDarcy,

@mikedoise If it doesn’t, you can always export to aiff and use Marco Arment’s Forecast. That will encode to mp3, and turn those markers in to chapters.

mikedoise,
@mikedoise@techopolis.social avatar

@DHSDarcy That’s what I ended up doing. It even kept the marker titles as chapter titles. It was great!

FreakyFwoof,

I'm on a train, and testing using my MacBook Air and just for fun.😀

simon,

@FreakyFwoof @FreakyFwoof Curious how it sounds if you mute ambiance but leave the other two alone. I thin ka lot of the artifacts you get in the solo voice track are from taking out the reverb. Impressive anyway; you could totally join a work meeting on the train and nobody would know.

I’ve started a new miniseries on my channel today, in which I try to make a tutorial about a single topic in under 10 minutes. Starting with:

This is unedited double bass from Logic 11 I improvised on a tiny AKAI keyboard. No adjustments at all. That's incredibly lifelike!

Playing around today with #LogicPro’s new #StemSplitter.

Well, that's just magic!

@tailsy@mastodon.social avatar

Heck. I like how lets you write and store notes within your project, except that it doesn't render URLs as hyperlinks. This means I can't have a clickable note in my project that opens notes in my vault, reference manuals, etc. It's frustratingly close to being really useful for me!

OK, I made it a bit shorter, bumped up the bpm by a few, and tweaked FX here and there.
