The iPhone 15 Plus is (depending on configuration) more expensive than a MacBook Air.

It naturally follows that I should of course be able to run macOS on my phone.

This is the logic.

woolie,
@woolie@mastodon.social avatar

@schwa that works for the Vision Pro as well.

Yes grandad. Of course you do grandad.

woolie,
@woolie@mastodon.social avatar

@schwa @jackbrewster sigh. I do NOT want a cut down version of macOS on iPad. I am perfectly ok with it always being a different thing. That being said, I would like some improvements to iPad that aren’t meant for iOS.

I am definitely in the minority here (I think) in that I use my iPad more than my iPhone.

Logic now has a V2 for iPad. Have any major plugin vendors shipped their plugins for Logic iPad?

FabFilter, Native Instruments, Waves, Arturia, SoundToys?

I rarely use my iPad Pro in landscape mode. When in landscape mode the keyboard takes up so much space as to make the content virtually disappear.

Games and video is about the only time I use landscape, iow a small proportion of my use, and I use it a lot.

It has always bothered me that the keyboard has been landscape only, and now the camera is going to landscape.

Ok , who has an Apollo interface? What do we think? :blobcatcoffee:

woolie,
@woolie@mastodon.social avatar

@ambergrey I do. I love them. Their drivers are fantastic (yes they need drivers, even on a Mac).

I do have concerns about the company.

In the last couple of years they seem to be moving away from their interfaces, or at least their improvements.

Their move to native plugins is really poorly implemented.

So far the interfaces are still going strong, despite little in the way of technical growth. But in this industry, stagnation is often a sign of problems.

I hope I am wrong.

  1. Build project A. Compiles fine.
  2. Build project B. Compiles fine
  3. Merge projects A & B together: "expression is too complex" errors abound from otherwise working code.

Swift source files are so “leaky”.

woolie,

@schwa
1 - build project with C++ Interop, compile, builds
2 - import CxxStdLib, stops building
3 - remove import, still won’t build

Chord chart for new track ‘1986’.
Inspired by the All In setting on my UA 1176 compressor, this riff has full chord strumming that needs a thinner pick. This might be the track that requires me to mic the Half Pint. As good as my other amp is into my audio interface, the Half Pint sounds better, even recorded on my iPhone.

woolie,
@woolie@mastodon.social avatar

@ology @ambergrey @NigelTufnel I have one in my pocket right now. I’ve tried so many picks in the past few decades.

My 99% daily driver is a Hawk pick. Everything else is for effect.

I got my old acoustic professionally set up in the fall and now that it's spring it's time to do it again myself. Action and neck relief seem fine but I have a little buzz on the D and G strings from frets 3-7. I haven't measured the relief but when I test it it clears the frets with a small gap, so it's not bad. I'm trying to figure out what to adjust. Does that sound like a neck relief issue, an action issue, or a fret issue? Or an "acoustics can have a little buzz as a treat" issue.

woolie,
@woolie@mastodon.social avatar

@gzt might be the nut slots are too deep. One way of finding out is to wedge something in the nut in the buzzing strings.

Loosen and lift the buzzing string out of the nut slot, put in a small piece of paper folded over, then put the string back on top of the paper (pushing both back into the slot). If it no longer buzzes, you have your answer.

Of the 58,000+ books published per year:

Great, very readable piece on book publishing and how it's very much like being a VC...

I have some personal news. Today is my last day at Apple. You can read the text of the goodbye letter I tearfully sent at the link below. I'm taking a brief break to catch my breath, but I'll be very excited to share what's next for me when my start date gets a little closer.

To the developer community: thank you. I've loved being a part of your journey, and I'm so eager to watch your success and continue to buy your apps. You are all magic. Now here, take a dog photo.

My day started off in a great mood. By the time I started making dinner I was in a real funk. Not sure why.

No big deal, but…

I know it has something to do with getting older, seeing my career stall out due to age, and now touring universities for my son, that I could not afford as a kid. Not quite envy, but boy do I wish I could have a do over.

I have the feels.

PS: dinner turned out really good though.

    Hi! What're your suggestions for strings for an acoustic guitar for a beginner? I've bought steel-wrapped-nylon before but someone was telling me nylon-only might be better? Help requested!

    woolie,
    @woolie@mastodon.social avatar

    @KayOhtie what kind of guitar is it. Is it a classical guitar? I would probably not put nylon strings on anything but a classical guitar.

    If you are worried about the effort required to play, get a light acoustic set and have a luthier set up the guitar action and nut height. That will make a huge difference.

    What are some of your favorite alt guitar tunings?

    woolie,

    @ambergrey I use DADGAD a lot. I also love Gilmour’s modified Nashville tuning. I even have a guitar permanently in that.

    @ambergrey ever since I was playing in a Pink Floyd cover band, I changed one acoustic to that. Hey You is played in Nashville (Gilmour’s is slightly different than standard).

    I loved it so much the guitar stayed that way.

    I don’t think there’s any such thing as a “bad voice.” Most successful singers I listen to have very unique voices, and no one with a unique voice is going to be for everyone.

    People who don’t have that wish they did, and people with more unique voices are insecure about it. It’s just how it is. Singers are insecure, news at 11.

    It’s like Dita Von Teese said — “you can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”

    woolie,
    @woolie@mastodon.social avatar

    @collin I’m a huge Rush fan. Speaking of voices that makes many people run away.

    ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    I think that means I agree.
