Over the past month, multiple journalists from top outlets have contacted me related to content I’ve shared.
While this was not uncommon on #Twitter when I was active there, it’s relatively new for me in the #fediverse. I suspect this suggests professional news outlets are becoming more comfortable here & posts have increasing impact. Good.
@Sheril To be honest, I don’t know that I have expectations for #mastodon. Social media for me isn’t actually social but interesting in its democratizing reach. Mostly I’m hoping to feed my curiosity. #Journalism might have been key to #Twitter but I never found it cut through the noise. I think that #journalism on #mastodon is maybe interesting but not essential. Certainly not more valuable than lane closures on i70, or a solid take on #Arsenal win over #NottsForest
@Sheril multiple organizations, governments and companies are in the process of starting Fediverse instances. Journalists will be where the news is, so they are following.
It doesn’t have to be fast, as long as it keeps growing!
@Sheril I've only just joined Mastodon, but it already seems a much friendlier place than Twitter. Not to mention Twitter's discovery system is a pain to get noticed and my feed was full of things I didn't want to see!

While this was a frequent occurrence during my time on #Twitter, it's a relatively fresh experience for me within the #fediverse. Good to see this trend. I think members of the #Mastodon community would be well served by encouraging the best members of the fact and truth based #journalism world to join a more thoughtful #SocialMedia community rather than the degrading #Twitter / #X mess
@Sheril I have not had that experience yet, but perhaps it depends on which field? Interesting that you have. We shall keep plodding on over here nonetheless - a principle is a principle....
Happy about the development but disappointed about the still relatively small numbers.
Most importantly though, I'm cross at so many media organizations not being present here (yet ?) and their ongoing engagement on fascist #xitter .
History won't be kind to them.

Musk has basically destroyed Twitter - my feed has become about 90% garbage over the past weeks. That probably has a lot to do w/people migrating to here recently!

Yes, very good.
Since I left twitter in February I've missed the commentary of a number of active participants. I see little interaction here from many of those. I'm not sure why, but I think some are busy enough with other things and having large followings maybe don't see a reason to branch out more then they already have. I've hope that with the withering of other platforms they will gravitate to the federverse in some fashion. I'm always looking to see their faces here.
