@publicvoit overall DisplayPort is still faster and has the more durable cables than HDMI, right?
Because long time ago I chose to only use DisplayPort within my home since back then it was more capable and the cables did not break all the time.

    @feld @saxnot As if most people are able to choose freely.

    I do have a multi-monitor setup with two hosts and I need both, HDMI and DP, because each TFT has those two inputs (and DP daisy-chaining isn't working here) and the hosts do have one HDMI and one DP output each.

    I personally would prefer both connector/protocol standards to die and use any USB-C-based connection instead with whatever protocol that works (also with FOSS).

    YMMV.

    @feld @saxnot As you said: it's not always DisplayLink which is bad, yes.

    Then it needs to be a different protocol - I don't really care as long as it works and it's available for FOSS.

    Currently, I'm using lenovo t490 -TB/USB-C-> TB3 doch -HDMI/DP-> 2 TFTs. An additional desktop is also connecting the other two DP/HDMI plugs. As long as the TFTs don't offer more DP inputs or multi-TB-USB-C in parallel, I rely on whatever connector they offer.

    @feld @publicvoit yeah idk most features I don't use anyway. My 1080p displays can't output audio or attach periphery.

    Some people chose to have 8K curved and 7.1 surround etc.
    I'm glad for those people.
    I'm not one of these people. I'm quite content with my screen which is almost a decade old. It works really well and I get my shit done.

    @feld @publicvoit in fact I did not buy a TV and the only TV I would consider buyingq is a "Dumb TV".
    It's more expensive because the TV company can't show you ads on it

    @feld @publicvoit What's the jab here?
    That I'm some sort of luddite?
    That I'm the sorta guy to mistrust properitary drivers or something?
