  • Solarenergie
  • Windenergie
  • Batteriespeicher
  • Stromnetze
  • Elektroautos
  • Wärmepumpen u.v.m.
    Die Politik muss die passenden Rahmenbedingungen dafür setzen.
saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

Got my starting number for the Hamburg Marathon on Sunday!

So excited! 😆✨

Here's my report from last year: https://blinry.org/first-marathon/

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@blinry uh aren't marathon sign ups frequently stolen using social media? In the past it was best practice not to show the specific design of the marathon signs on social media as it was too easy to copy them. Or is that something which is solved by now?

I remember when I was a kid, if someone was in therapy, people talked about it in hushed tones, like it was a shameful secret, and now people talk about it casually in every day conversation. It's good to see that things can change, even if it's just a bit.

It’s amazing what can be true at the same time!

  • Two opposing things can both be bad
  • A company can do both good and bad things
  • An alternative to something unethical can also be unethical
  • Laws can contradict each other

I know it sounds weird!

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@mike @thomasfuchs my argument opened with "most things are not subjective we should think more black and white"

Plus it's a close group of friends who unironically read my multipage midnight articles but social media nonetheless.

On the German-speaking internet, we write "orrrrr" (with a variable amount of "r"s and, to a lesser extent, "o"s) as an expression of annoyance or anger, especially (but not exclusively!) when we only play being annoyed. Examples (translated):

"orrrr that was the most awful pun ever"

"oorrrrrrr, the bus is 20 minutes late already!"

It's supposed to be a grumpy growl, like in the attached audio.

Is there something similar in English or other languages as well?

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@scy native german here and I have no idea what you mean.
You probably don't mean an long o like in "oooooooder?"
I don't think I have seen much rrrrrr in my parts of the german internet but I know ® for the rolling south german R.

I want to try the "make 50 of something" technique again!

So this week, I'll try to find 50 things to do with a Software Defined Radio! 📻

I'll use this simple USB dongle, which you can get for around $30.

Techbros will keep attempting to invent ways for people to exchange information without relying on a network of human trust, and again and again, human trust will prove to be an essential part of a functioning system.

Systems that mainly attempt to replace human trust always work great until they don’t, then you fall off a lonely cliff from which no one can help you out.

Never bet against a network built on human trust and a shared sense of personal reputation, because that’s where all human collaboration eventually gets done, and because that’s where every hare-brained “don’t trust humans” network will eventually end up, lest they perish.

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@drahardja I rather have TLS than having trust in the anonymous humans whose potentially hacked servers route my data.

Trust is not bad but often it's not necessary.
e. g. the postal service does not need to know the contents of my letters to properly work.

Of course a system in nobodys control e. g. Bitcoin or Etherium Contracts just runs rampant, sometimes without goal or ability to change fundamental properties and that's more in lieu of what you probably refer to (I assume)

@publicvoit overall DisplayPort is still faster and has the more durable cables than HDMI, right?
Because long time ago I chose to only use DisplayPort within my home since back then it was more capable and the cables did not break all the time.

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@feld @publicvoit yeah idk most features I don't use anyway. My 1080p displays can't output audio or attach periphery.

Some people chose to have 8K curved and 7.1 surround etc.
I'm glad for those people.
I'm not one of these people. I'm quite content with my screen which is almost a decade old. It works really well and I get my shit done.

saxnot,

@feld @publicvoit in fact I did not buy a TV and the only TV I would consider buyingq is a "Dumb TV".
It's more expensive because the TV company can't show you ads on it

That I'm the sorta guy to mistrust properitary drivers or something?

Do you have a blog at Wordpress.com? Congrats! You will soon be feeding all your content to an AI, unless you opt-out. Same with Tumblr! (Why I self-host, reason ) Source: https://www.404media.co/tumblr-and-wordpress-to-sell-users-data-to-train-ai-tools/ and many more

UPDATE: Seems it already happened. Content from 2014-2023 has already been shared. So your opt-out will just be honoured going forward. If and how already sent content will be handled by the receiving 3rd party after you opt-out remains a mystery

Hey @tuchemnitz

@Einzigartiger @jon @tuchemnitz Wasserstoff hat sinnvolle Anwendungsfälle.

@scy @jendrik yeah i'd say it matches the wikipedia definitin spot on:

»Brutalist architecture […] buildings are characterised by minimalist constructions that showcase the bare building materials and structural elements over decorative design. The style commonly makes use of exposed, unpainted concrete or brick, angular geometric shapes and a predominantly monochrome colour palette […] 1/2

I hate developers...

https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/29269

People are trying to get the Mastodon team to change the defaults due to the current spam attack. #mastoadmin

The developers:

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@thor i'm aware of that.
A patch can prevent similar attacks like this but why not have captcha for both open and closed registrations which admins can't toggle off via the web settings?
Because I imagine quite a few admins want their registration to be open no matter the default and then spam bots find their way back in again.
To combat automated account creation there needs to be more than having a toggle off only for new installations and many want to have it open anyway

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@thor i've read "teenager" multiple times now and since to my knowledge the person or group responsible is not known it feels pretty condescending. It's like calling people one does not like "thug".

Why should it matter if its a bored retiree or some teen preparing a science fair? Why should teens be more bored or criminal or more spammy in regards to social network attacks than others?
Let's just call it a spam wave or spammers or whatever

saxnot,
@saxnot@chaos.social avatar

@thor plus, belittering the enemies one is fighting against makes oneself look bad too. "Look how weak the UdSSR is! They are so weak! We fought head to head for decades, nearly equal in strength!" Doesn't really paint a good picture.

"A teenager hacked the distributed social media"
Doesn't make the distributed social media appear very strong when "it's just a teenager" suffices to break it.

Despite, no matter who it is it shows a relevant design/security flaw worth countering.
