Well, even in the earlier Donald Duck comics, his three nephews possess a "smart book" where they can look up everything. So, the idea is not that unfamiliar to the 1950s.

I have an electronic device that is used to connect with my friends and family, I use to note down my thoughts, share my opinion and is needed to do my job and earn money. It was already only barely private and all my personal thoughts and contributions are being monetized, while the last refuge of privacy, my private messages with friends and family are now all automatically spied upon by the (UK) government.
