@fahrni@dnanian@simonbs Back in Switzerland I had bought this. It was actually in the ~250.- CHF range back then. Not pretentious and works very well in a room (it’s small).
@simonbs whatever you end up getting, get a good grinder, it definitely is almost more important than the espresso machine (once you’re into semi-pro territory, think Rancilio Silvia and up, or anything with an E61 group head or similar). A Eureka Mignon Specialità is an amazing grinder, for example, and paired with a e.g. Silvia will allow you to prepare some really good espressos.
@simonbs I’ve had the Breville Barista Express for seven years and love it, I think it’s the ideal entry-level all-in-one home espresso machine! It was like $600 back in 2017.
@ObjectiveJi I was eyeing their Express Impress because I like the idea of having the tamper built-in. However, then I read that the Pro and Touch models will heat-up much faster and thought that might be a good enhancement but 🤷♂️
@simonbs Totally up to you, but my machine heats up from sufficiently to pull a shot from cold in, I don’t know, 10 seconds? I’m grabbing a coffee cup and putting away some dishes in that time.
@ObjectiveJi That's good to know! Only the Express Impress and Touch Impress have the tamper built-in and I'm really not fond of the Touch Impress as it has a touch screen. It's too much tech for what I need 😄
@simonbs Interesting, the Express Impress and Touch Impress weren’t around when I got mine seven years ago - back then it was just Barista Express and they added Touch a bit later. They seem like newer generations of those products though!
@coffeegeek@diceccam I’m eyeing a Sage/Breville with a built-in grinder. If I don’t go that route, I’ll probably just get a Philips HD7900 to replace my Philips HD7767.
@simonbs@diceccam You're better off buying the Sage / Breville Infuser on a deal (they go on sale often) and a much better grinder, like a SK40 or DF64 Gen 2, for nearly the same price, but with a seriously better grinder. Or a multipurpose grinder like the Encore ESP or Smart Grinder Pro.
@coffeegeek I’m curious to hear if you've got an opinion about the Jura Z10 and if it will make as good an americano or caffe latte as a Sage machine, assuming the Sage's grinder is used.
Ultimately, I'm trying to get a good but not necessarily completely perfect espresso at a high convenience and without producing a mess. I'm sure I could get absorbed into brewing espresso, but I don't need a new hobby right now 😄
@simonbs Interestingly enough, I have a Jura Z10 here to review, but I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I do know they got really serious with this machine on all the drink builds it does, incl all the cold brews. But I have not put it to the test yet.
@simonbs as someone who went down the rabbit hole, I ended up with a Rocket Appartamento and will confirm having incredible espresso daily is worth it.
