@beforewisdom yeah it’s basically a bunch of people blinking off into space and pretending not to hear and it’s been that way for years. Trying to talk sense into the far left and far right have been pretty much the same experience.

I think it is human nature to be slow to own the faults of your own tribe. People just don't want to hear it. Even people who are activists for everything they can be activists for.
Russia has long been a corrupt, neoliberal, federal semi-presidential republic, now for over 30 years. Anything communist from the 1980's has long been replaced with capitalism.
Humorously calling someone "comrade" to insinuate an allegiance with Russia is a joke that's aged as well as a Bill Cosby joke from the "Bill Cosby Show."
Such jokes also besmirch the good and effective works of socialism like Việt Nam's "Đổi Mới", their socialist-oriented market economy.
I think sometimes people get lost in the sauce. Its incredibly stupid Jill Stein was there but the far more damning accusation about her is the vaccine skepticism now that we live in the post covid 19 era.
People forget Obama ran on "resetting ties with Russia" yet Obama seems untainted by his failures to foresee and address those crises that Russia eventually created and he had far more power.
How? Russia hasn't been communist for over three decades. Jokes calling anyone perceived to be in league with Russia "comrade" is a joke that hasn't made sense for over three decades.
The joke simply doesn't work. Besides there's a ton of material about Jill Stein that's both much better and much funnier. She is a wealth of humorous acts.
Russia is basically the opposite of socialism: they're a oligarchy. "Comrade" simply doesn't make any sense.

What's the "red pen" comment? "Đổi Mới" did away with a state-command economy and introduced market reforms that reduced Việt Nam's poverty rate to below 3%, much lower than the US'. I'm guessing you've also got a problem with Vietnamese people too.

@flexghost I've defended him a LONG time. I disagreed with him, strongly, even, but I've appreciated his input and wanted to see his right to be a professor and independent thinker defended. This shit is way beyond the pale and shows his whole ass. There are a few people that are indisputably Russian assets, Trump, Tulsi Gabbard and Jill Stein are chief among them. (Probably the whole GOP, including RFK Jr who is as much a Democrat as I am a demi-god). **** this guy.
@philip_cardella first off, I’m sorry for what you must be feeling right now. Even though there may not be direct ties with Professor west and Russia, there are definitely ties now. And at a time when we can lose our democracy. It must feel bad even like a betrayal.
