Oakland Airport wants to rename itself "San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport?" Seriously?
What in the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim yeah we're in Anaheim but nod-nod wink-wink think of us as LA but we're the red one not the blue one but we're better because we have Ohtani wait what do you mean he's a Dodger now whatever bro we're still claiming LA" is going on here?
@mekkaokereke If the airport located in Millbrae can have a name starting with “San Francisco,” why can’t the one in Oakland? OAK is closer to downtown San Francisco than SFO.
@scott@mekkaokereke To be a bit pedantic, it isn’t located in Millbrae. It is technically in San Mateo but the land is not part of another city and both the land and airport on top of it are directly owned and operated by the city and county of San Francisco, with an SF zip code and is functionally in many respects an exclave of SF.
The airport authority is a directly managed department of the SF government, police and fire services are part of their SF depts, & city laws apply to the airport.
@mekkaokereke I'm not much of sports guy and I must of stopped paying attention to this when I was a teenager, but I always thought it was the Anaheim Angels. I didn't know they switched to "Los Angeles Angels" so long ago!
lol poor Oakland and Anaheim, their institutions have such a low confidence in their city's name recognition.
@mekkaokereke This reminds me of an old Almost Live sketch where they listed the top 5 Renton beautification projects, and #1 was "rename self South Bellevue"
@mekkaokereke this makes more sense then LA Angels bc maybe someone traveling to the Bay Area for the first time doesn't realize that OAK is just as good (IMO better) of an option as SFO. "SF Bay Area Oakland Airport" is probably better SEO.
