Which do you think would be more likely to modify some behavior at Fox News?

1 Widely promoted negative branding narratives aimed at their sponsors and carriers.

2 Publicly shaming Fox News executives and producers (using their names, photos and videos) for enabling sedition against the United States.

@shoq It's #1. These people have no shame.

Why not both?

@Tengrain Conservation of energy and resources (that we don’t have yet)

@shoq @Tengrain Not necessarily. I’m all for naming and shaming not just the advertisers, but the honchos behind both the companies behind the advertising AND the executives at the right wing noise outlets. We’ve reached the point where being tough isn’t enough. It’s time now to fight dirty.

@BigBoppa @Tengrain Not dirty, but aggressively. And with imagination, nerve, and financial resources. Something those with visibility could and should ask for, but almost never do. And therein lies the core of this systemic inertness on the American left. No one likes to talk about it. And it shows. We don't win because we don't try very hard. The lunatic right tries very hard, and all the time.

@BigBoppa @shoq

For years, I tried to get info on how some of Fox News personalities (they are NOT journalists) contracts worked, especially those who owned their own production companies (like Tucker, for instance).

Production companies have to make their payrolls or there is no product, so how did Tucker’s show survive a sustained boycott and Glenn Beck’s didn’t?

It’s not just the carrying fees that floated them.

@shoq gotta go after the balance sheet. It's the only thing that matters to them.

The execs won't care if you publicly shame them, because

  1. they obviously have no shame
  2. they're getting paid well and have a golden parachute.

@Tedgarrison3 But going after their producers IS going after their balance sheet. Internal and external producers are crucial to their profits. And Fox’s staff has been openly disgusted before now. It’s a weakness the left doesn’t lean on because the American left doesn’t do much of anything at all except bitch, clutch pearls, and post really angsty hashtags.

@shoq
No idea. Not convinced anything would work so long as Fox News keeps playing to the Trump fan base. They have a loyal load of viewers that they'll want to keep because they will be loyal.

@AutisticMumTo3 Fox will drop that base PDQ when profits are threatened. They have before. Despite bad facts to the contrary, only 37% of Fox’s revenue comes from carriage. Shareholders will be heard from when the other 63% of revenues are menaced by aggressive civic action.
