I got my election assignment yesterday. I'm now an election worker. Not a volunteer. You get money for it. Not a huge amount. My thinking is that I have students who think the last presidential election was stolen. Well, shit, I think, I might as well go in and be able to tell them from personal experience how elections are run.
As best I can tell, it's by checklist. Checklists read aloud.
My mom used to do this (yes, paid), way back when paper ballots were all there was. I grew up with the perspective of her stories about the voting, work requirements, ballot-counting process after the polls closed. (All done on site by the workers, yes, aloud. Nobody was able to go home until they were finished.) I'm pretty sure it was one of the things that predisposed me to consider all the 'election scam' stuff was a pile of 💩 . Good luck. @jnye I asked the person who trained us if she knew what a hanging chad was. She did not. "I was born in 1998," she said, and suddenly I had arthritis.

That is great Bob! My wife has been a poll worker in several recent elections and it was interesting and reassuring when she described how things works at her locations.
