It has been a long time coming, but I've made it official:

"Daniel no longer answers questions on stackoverflow. Use a dedicated public curl forum for accurate and timely answers about anything . "

(yes, speaking about myself in 3rd person)

Great action 👍🏻. My hope is that we get more specialized pages/blogs, instead of those central places that sooner or later get way too much power. Especially if that power is based on contributions by the community. For this reason, I decided to revamp my blog (https://linux-audit.com/), specialize, and still allow to crawl it. After all, if it continues to exist, I rather want it to use knowledge of higher quality.

@bagder thank you for doing this. I have boosted your tooth and I hope more open source developers follow your lead.

@bagder

Understandable and good, but a question: is there a "dedicated public curl forum"? The whole reason why people went to Stack Overflow in the first place was because it answered not individual questions but the "where do I even look for a forum on this" question.

bagder,
@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

@richpuchalsky yes there are official curl forums to use. Mailing lists and GitHub discussions primarily.

@bagder @LangerJan At first I thought “curl forum” meant “a forum that you use curl to read from/post to”

@Merovius @bagder @LangerJan Well, that part is true. You could definitely use curl for reading the forums. However, a web browser is much more convenient. 😉

@bagder was there a tipping point or just a desire to consolidate this kind of thing?

bagder,
@bagder@mastodon.social avatar

@Parkplusplus it is primarily the consolidation thing, but also the fact that stackoverflow makes it really hard to propagate the real and proper answers and now their latest aggressive AI sellouts.
