WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

I was looking something up in my 2023 spreadsheet and thought I'd share some interesting bits; the average temperature of my runs last year was 3°C, and wore pants 51 days of the year (for running). Did I mention I'm a giant nerd that tracks everything? 🤣

@WTL Yes, you mentioned being a nerd. And that‘s what we all LOVE about you. My wife and me are nerds as well. We‘re Star Trek fans, we delight in computer sciences, we compose and play our own music… Being a nerd is a very good way of life, it means you love doing things not everybody else loves doing. So, where‘s the harm in being a nerd?

@sebastianhahn @WTL being a nerd is a proper lifestyle.
I would also like to track more ofy gear, but I have to add it manually after each run in Garmin connect).
Would be great if you could add this directly from the watch after running, like the percieved effort.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@NerdRunner @sebastianhahn Percieved effort is a tough one for me - some days are harder than others… but how much harder? Difficult to quantify accurately. <starts thinking> 🤔

NerdRunner,
@NerdRunner@social.tchncs.de avatar

@WTL @sebastianhahn you're right. Its more or less a random number.
It was just an example, because you can rate your effort directly after the run with the watch.
It would be great if this would also be possible for gear.

@NerdRunner @WTL @sebastianhahn I have been using RPE for years to assess my runs, this link explains approx how I use the scale. https://thestringbean.co/how-and-why-runners-use-rate-of-perceived-exertion-rpe/

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@jaredbyrd @NerdRunner @sebastianhahn Reading through this is interesting. If I was to come up with a system, it would be simple:
1-Lowest effort
2-
3-Regular effort
4-
5- Maximum Effort (insert Deadpool joke here)

Beyond than that feels …realistically unquantifiable for me. I'm unsure if that would result in useful data for me.

Any of the ultras I’ve done were because that day I felt like running far, not because I'd signed up for a race.

But, if it helps others, I'm all for it.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@sebastianhahn Thanks. It’s nice to be reminded. 🧡

rcr,
@rcr@mastodon.online avatar

@WTL This is a very low average temperaturen it seems to me. You must be used to some fresh condition while running!

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@rcr It's biased low because I get up and out so early, so even in the summer it can be fairly cool - which is why I get up early so I can avoid summer heat. Cold is much easier to handle for me than heat.

SaschaFreud,
@SaschaFreud@mas.to avatar

@WTL I have a spreadsheet that tracks our home coffee consumption from the machine (espessso, lungo, Americano, ristretto, etc.). We all have our data desires!

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@SaschaFreud I get curious about many things and suddenly, there's a new spreadsheet to help sort it out. 🤣 Glad I'm not alone.

zeh,
@zeh@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@WTL Oh damn now I wish I was tracking everything like that! My new pants have ranges of compression, thickness, insulation, etc, and I'm still finding out which ones work better under which conditions.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@zeh We're at the start of the year, so you can start if you so wish. ;-)

jaredbyrd,
@jaredbyrd@mas.to avatar

@WTL tracking pants is different level, but I love this. I really should have a log outside of garmin/strava/TP but I have never been successful in keeping it. Also, if I have pants on it’s too damned cold to be out.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@jaredbyrd I get curious about things. In the case of pants, I got curious in late 2019, so I added it to 2020 onwards. Adding the daily data to the spreadsheet takes about two actual minutes, so it isn't a big deal.

@randomized@masto.bike avatar

@WTL
-42 !?
With or without pant that day ? 😁

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@randomized 🤣 That was pants and tights. The line is around -13°C or so, depending on distance I'm going.

pa,
@pa@hachyderm.io avatar

@WTL on first read I interpreted that as "wore pants 51/365 days", and was thinking that WfH had been really good to you last year. 🫠

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@pa That's a record of wearing pants while out running. I've WFH for over twenty years, so I'm always in shorts at home. 🤣
