The birb is either laying an egg or sitting on an egg or meditating about life's deepest secrets. Definitely do not have smartphone addiction, this one.
Bird nest building in full swing! I see two of them together sometimes, hopping about the branches of my garden plants. So cute.
They go back and forth a few times a day, and at night they go somewhere else to sleep. Once they shift in I would have to be very careful not to scare them!
So I came back to a half dead garden and, to my delight, a new sunbird nest! Yes, the sunbirds have returned and are rebuilding the former nest. So it is a true, they do recycle nests!
My concern is that my aircond compressor is right above the nest and may scare away the birds. Does that mean I do without the aircond for a while 🤭😵🤪
PS: Turned the aircond on. Birb didn't seem fazed by it. Yipee
@liztai I believe the birds abandoned the nest on my balcony after another pair of bird tried to steal their nest haha, I actually saw them fight & chase each other around right before they abandoned the nest. So I can’t tell for sure which pair of bird is coming back.
Sunbirds are back to my #balconynest two days in a row! This one seems to be deeply pondering at the old nest, which was made around the same time last year by another pair of Sunbirds. Do you think they will rebuild or salvage the nest for another location?
My question is how do they know the nest is here? Are these the babies that flew off the nest and came back cos they remember where it was?
I think the sun birds are back! A couple visited the former nest and I can see them flying back and forth. Maybe to dismantle it, maybe to rebuild it, I guess we shall see!
Towards the end of last year, I got to watch a pair of sunbird build a nest and then raise two chicks. I decided to capture my live toots in a blog post to keep the memories forever 🥰
@liztai The sunbirds on my balcony are also moving the nest somewhere else, probably because my wife adjusted the nest one day when hanging out laundry. I think they kinda have a few nesting sites on rotation so they might come back another time!
Now that the sunbirds are grown up, they leave around 7am to go on their bird adventures all day and return around 6pm for bed time.
I had a good look at the nest today and was amused and quite impressed that it is made up of rafia string, twigs, dried leaves and...fur! What dog or cat contributed to this nest, I wonder?
I was thinking of walking to the nearest cafe to read blogs and journal but realize I have a perfectly good spot in my apartment to do that. If you have been following my #BalconyNest posts, the nest is at the upper right corner of the pic, hanging from the plant.

@liztai looks like a Bush Tit nest. Glad to see you hosting them in a nice safe place. Had a chance to photograph one but it was by a busy park path and got damaged/vandalized before any chicks could hatch.
I was getting worried for baby sunbird because she just flew off and I didn't see her the whole day
And then around 6pm she returns with mum and dad and she's now chirping up a storm, probably telling them about her adventures.
Caught a video of the little sunbird chick flying from its nest to perch on my Brazilian Spinach. Happy to give you a little garden to test your wings, baby bird. Now be a nice #bird and poop on my spinach.
Today, to my surprise the sunbird chicks were not in the nest in the morning! Like there was nobody inside. The #birds are back now, with mum and dad occasionally visiting.
I guess its time for them to fly out of the nest. Aww they have grown so much. Look at how fat and floofy this chick is!
The Sunbird looks nice, fluffy and well-fed today. Not sure if this is the chick or mama, but she is gorgeous!
