My friend Bramble (offspring of Hedgy and Hazel) having a snack this evening. Bramble was busy catching flies when I visited this evening, seemed to be enjoying it. In .

I draw my grandmother a birthday card with a different bird every year. Chose an American Kestrel this year, and I think it turned out pretty nice.

My latest #Robin friend, Bramble. Bramble is just over 5 weeks old & is now fully independent. For now, Bramble is hanging around close to the nest site, but will shortly begin to wander further afield in search of a territory. Bramble is now adept at catching food, including flies & fast-moving spiders, so stands a good chance of survival.

About a month ago, I photo'd a pileated woodpecker for the first time, in Banneker Park a few miles from our home. Today, I saw one of those critters in our backyard. This is the male of the species, noted by the red stripe near the beak.

Previously when I've been lucky enough to see a heron, they normally tend to stay stock-still, watching everything. This one decided to take a wee stroll https://www.flickr.com/photos/woolamaloo_gazette/53703566238/in/photostream/

I actually finished it! My little writeup on #cilium and #ipv6 peering with #bird: https://farcaller.net/2024/making-cilium-bgp-work-with-ipv6/ where I try to convince cilium to propagate the ipv6 routes to my vm host.

Not the best photo I took today in a technical sense but the best for personal reasons... I haven't documented Brown-headed Nuthatches in the yard since we lost the last of our oaks in Hurricane Katrina 19 years ago!

One the fledglings surprised me by taking food from my hand today. This one has also started catching its own food and seems to be getting quite good at it. Won't be long until it will have to go off and set up home somewhere, hopefully nearby.

Angry Canada Goose

Male Canada geese are very aggressive. During mating season they choose a female (if they do not have one, as they are monogamous) and defend her (and later the nest) against all rivals (even other species).

This scene started with a couple sleeping at the edge of the pond, when suddenly a second pair loudly came swimming across to chase the couple away. The couple did not budge, and instead it lead to a long fight about whom the pond belongs to. I was standing right next to them, and they were a) loud and b) scary!
