Excellent and hard hitting Episode of the Common Weal Policy Podcast on profit extraction from Scotland. Yet another example of the fact that globalised #Capitalism benefits no one but the ultra rich.

The Common Weal Policy Podcast: Episode #209 - Profit and Politics

@thecommongreen Would one of your contacts be able to help you with an episode on it? What is the impact of Mondragon (and other workers' co-ops) on the Basque economy, and how do they compare for economic impact to enterprises of similar size? I cannot help but believe that must benefit their home economy more, because more profit is retained locally.

Long shot I know ...

Do you speak Basque/Euskara and live in the UK?

Would you like some FREE books to read with your children?

I have some spare author copies sent by my Spanish publisher than I would love to find a good home for.

No costs or strings attached!

"Basauti" by Korrontzi from Basque Country. The song is an hommage to the women who work on the land. I like the dances also.

Yo, so, I just put on this movie and then couldn't figure out what language they're speaking. Well, apparently it's a called Tola based on . I think that's pretty cool and makes sense considering the context.

Olentzero is the Christmas gift giver in the Basque regions of France and Spain. The earliest stories about him say that he was the last of the jentilak, a race of giants said to have built the region’s megalithic monuments.

Digital pet-peeve - using flags to represent languages. Besides maybe a small island nation, no country in the world has just one . The likely represents only the majoritarian or capital's language, often imposed, meaning you're erasing minority languages.

Member states of the EU have poured cold water over an ambitious request made by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Sánchez has asked that three of the country's regional languages – Catalan, Galician and Basque – be named as official EU languages. But during a ministerial meeting in Brussels, the appeal fell far short of the required unanimous support and it's unclear when the issue could be put back for discussion.
