I'm confused about how I can link Mastodon and Lemmy sites, say. I have an account on Fosstodon. Can I use it to access and post to https://beehaw.org/c/programming for example? I can follow @programming but that's not the same thing? The beehaw site says to search for !programming but this returns nothing (with the ! prefix) on fosstodon. Am I missing something?

Via @xuxxun: Lemmy server Beehaw adds new Disability and Accessibility community.

"Hello everyone! This is the first post in the newly made Disability and accesibility community. Feel free to post anything health, chronic illness, disability or accesibility related. If you need a space for support or sharing your experiences regarding all of the above topics, this is the right place as well"

kjr, to kbin

I am totally impressed.
I joined https://kbin.social/ a couple of days ago, and the instance has less than 600 users (I think maybe 400?)
Last days gained momentum quite fast. Now it has more than 10000 users.

Let us see how the instance grows when Monday a big chunk of Reddit goes dark.

Lazycog,

@kjr I really hope this is the push to bring more people from to the fediverse.

It seems that is not a very attractive alternative to many migrators due to the open political stance of the developers (although some really nice instances exist, such as ), but it is sad if a big chunk of people join sites such as squabbles.io which is not part of the fediverse and IIRC it is not open-source.

is a really nice alternative which is constantly being developed!

Reasons to stop using and start using :

  1. Privacy reasons. When a comment is "deleted" on Lemmy, the comment is actually only hidden to all except instance administrators. The comment remains on the post and continues to display the poster's username. This persists even if the account is deleted. kbin does not handle comments this way, and your deleted comments are removed. (Full disclosure, idk yet what happens when a kbin user deletes a comment on a Lemmy post, but I'm looking into it!)

  2. kbin offers a sweet community search tool that not only searches kbin communities ("magazines"), but also Lemmy communities and even Mastodon groups! This means you can easily find communities all across the for any of your interests.

  3. kbin has a much nicer/more modern UI. It's got some quirks, but it's easier to read and navigate than Lemmy by default.

  4. Customization options! Lemmy has themes, which is cool, but kbin has themes and lots of fun toggles to change your experience.

  5. Last but certainly not least, Lemmy devs have a pretty shit stance on human rights. (See here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379). There are communities like , which are super friendly and non-problematic instances separate from the Lemmy devs, but it's worth noting that instances like Lemmy's flagship instance and Lemmygrad are run by folks with some grossly misguided views.

All-in-all, if you are looking for a new home for content aggregation while has its little meltdown, I will endorse the heck out of kbin based on what I know rn.

Lack of discussion on beehaw (and lemmy)

First off, I want to say that I love what the people here are doing but I do have a problem. There is never any conversation about posts. There are tons and tons of links shared but most of the time they're just articles that someone found interesting. I never see any true, meaningful discussion the way I do on reddit. Does...

@metaltoilet Let's try replying to this from Calckey instead of from my account on . If that works, I might try to boost it to increase visibility (of Beehaw, or of in general) on Calckey. Maybe that will increase visitors to both. :fediverse:
