I can say I'm not racist. I got white friends and just mix well. But my grandparents they do have racist views. But my grampa was brought up in segregated mississippi. I can understand his views with what he and my gramma went thru.
Gotta give them a pass on this???
What y'all think? #blackmastodon#BlackFedi
I’m selling or donating (to the right institution) my 45-piece, diverse #AfricanArt collected over decades. The collection includes tribal masks, framed batiks, carved wooden figurines and several large bits of Kente cloth, one very large silk piece that is museum quality. If you’re interested I can send pics. DM me for more information. #ArtForSale#Juneteenth#BlackMastodon#BlackFriday
Congratulations to the James Beard Media Award winners — the best of the best in food writing and broadcasting. Here's a post from @Eater listing all the winners — a couple of whom have collaborated with @Flipboard in the past.
In 2021, @Flipboard worked with K.J. Kearney, creator of Black Food Fridays, who has just been announced as winner of the James Beard Award for Social Media Account. Here's his fantastic Storyboard on why we all need to talk about Black cuisine, which features stories about the significance of pound cake and Hennessy, the commodification of resistance, and books about Black food history.

Despite what you may have heard in the news lately, the period of Jim Crow was never nor can it ever be viewed as a period of benefit for Black families.

June 19th is Juneteenth it commemorates June 19th 1865 . The day enslaved African American people heard about the abolition of slavery. A very important day but were we really free?
Segregation continued for another century! #Juneteenth2024#blacklivesmatter#blackmastodon

"Black British anti-knife crime activist Shaun Thompson, 38, has launched a legal challenge against the Metropolitan Police. The police detained the 38-year-old after live facial recognition technology wrongly identified him as a suspect."
The tragic irony is that these models get trained on datasets that do not represent the entire population, and then of course get weaponized against the marginalized communities.
Does anyone know of non-Western NGOs with a successful #Fediverse presence? I am planning a #workshop to share best practices for global civil society about how to break free from #BigTech social media.
Hello all. I use traditional archery as a mind-body meditation, own a modest Samick Sage takedown recurve, but at 67 years old, often struggling to make ends meet, I can't afford the $50 a month membership, to the nearest club shooting range in San Leandro.
I'm searching for others of like-mind to create a group and seek the donation or more affordably rent space nearby in the East San Francisco Bay Area, where BIPOC LGBTQ+ can safely, comfortably — gather, share, learn, and practice together. #BlackMastodon#BIPOC#LGBTQ#MindBody#Meditation#Archery
