My students and I were very lucky to have Dr. Luciana Forti give a guest lecture on "Data-Driven Learning for Italian L2 and beyond" in my seminar on Critical Language #DataLiteracy for the teaching and learning of Romance #languages yesterday. It must have been inspiring for more than just me because I've just had a student come to my office hour to discuss writing a term paper using the Perugia Corpus. ☺️ #CorpusLinguistics#DDL@corpuslinguistics
Has someone come up with an instrument to evaluate pupils'/students' digital and/or data literacy? I have found surveys of self-assessments of these competences but not an actual test. I'm sure there must be something out there! Thanks for boosting. #DataLiteracy#DigitalLiteracy
Paulina Przystupa, a member of our #dataLiteracy team, recently wrote a program update.
The update introduces a #Twine game and a mystery roll-playing game that invite #archaeology students to explore data issues and #stakeholder perspectives.
If you're interested in research #datamanagement, these games involve some cool reuse of datasets for instructional purposes.
Unser Institutsleiter Prof. Dr. Manfred Hauswirth thematiserte in der Online-eGov-Campus-Ringvorlesung die Fragen "Was bedeutet #DataLiteracy? und "Warum ist Data Literacy wichtig für die digitale Souveränität eines Staates?". Die Video-Aufzeichnung steht hier zur Verfügung: 🎬 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-n4VUVHxUE
In the iTalks series organised by our iLab, 🔟 experts on #DataLiteracy discussed it with almost 7⃣0⃣0⃣ participants from public sector, academia, and civil society! 👩💻
The latest Excel blunder from Austria is a lesson in why we need professional data people.
There's a widespread expectation that anyone can take Excel and use it to do critical things with data.
But data people know that we need the right tools to make data processing verifiable (usually with code) and enable us to check that everything is as it should be (with unit tests or assertions).
And most of all, we need more #dataliteracy at every level.
I've been playing with the idea of building a Digital Research Academy and I need your feedback!
The idea is to build a network of trainers in #OpenScience, software #RSEng, and #dataliteracy from different fields to be able to provide great training.

What other cool initiative exist, that we could learn from?
What are your experiences?
What would be a good organisational form for this?
