"Their study surveyed over 1,700 participants in the US, revealing that anti-misinformation features increased users’ awareness of misinformation in social media; but did not make them more likely to share information on social media, or more willing to receive information from the platforms. Both trust and distrust coexisted in the participants, emerging as distinct features and not simply as opposite ends of a spectrum."

'...research has shown that most Americans believe conspiracy theories of some sort. Why then, if most of us believe conspiracies, do we generally think of conspiracy theorists as loony?
New research from the University of Illinois Chicago found that it’s because people are quite bad at identifying what is or isn’t a conspiracy theory when it’s something they believe.'

"Elections Canada is trying to insulate Canadian voters from false narratives and information during the next federal election by launching an online tool to help voters cut through misinformation and disinformation about the electoral process in Canada. The ElectoFacts website... provides factual information to debunk the most common misconceptions observed by Elections Canada officials in recent years."
@smallcircles@stefano the unknown factor is the degree and speed of #digitalliteracy diffusion. Corporate control of tech follows it being the only economic pattern that cajoled enough brains to tap into its potential. The public sector doing the same is (maybe) the next phase. Yet individual digital sovereignty through tech literacy is the noblest destiny of the fediverse. Should be (imho) an explicit human right / UN #SDG as this will shape our future more than anything else.
Today I tried to get students to install a piece of software on their personal laptops... 😬 Predictably, it did not go well... 😔 Most students have never installed anything in their lifes – which it totally fine, they're here to learn! More worringly, however, I could not fix one student's problem on #MacOS (Ventura 13.6): they get this error message even after successfully running the command >sudo xattr -cr /Applications/BootCaT.app. Any ideas what else we can do? #DigitalLiteracy

Has someone come up with an instrument to evaluate pupils'/students' digital and/or data literacy? I have found surveys of self-assessments of these competences but not an actual test. I'm sure there must be something out there! Thanks for boosting. #DataLiteracy#DigitalLiteracy
#EU#DigitalLiteracy#MediaLiteracy: "This commissioned research report is a continuation of the Media Literacy Case for Educators project, which was introduced in April 2023 in the article: Media Literacy Case for Educators: Empowering Educators to Lead Media Literacy Initiatives in Europe and referenced in: An Assessment of the Needs of Educators and Youth in Europe for a Digital and Media Literacy Education Intervention.Two phases of exploration have been conducted, involving two rounds of desk research. The result of the second phase can be seen in the annotated bibliography included at the end of this report. Recommendations which resulted from the research include: combine methods and make learning fun; use evaluation and other key elements in the curriculum. Additional observations and considerations which require further exploration include: give attention to teachers’ and educators’ skills; and develop “patchwork blankets” and alliances."
