On top of the great work that @AsahiLinux and the Fedora Asahi SIG do, they've also worked to line up releases with the rest of Fedora, so thank you for that!
This release brings:
OpenGL 4.6
High quality audio out of the box
Plasma, Gnome, Server, and Minimal variants available
Alright, grab a coffee or favorite drink. @AsahiLinux has released a deep dive into their recent slew of changes related to HDMI, OpenGL, WiFi, the touchbar, speakers, and more!
Note about Fedora Asahi Remix and the release of future features: there are two pieces to this puzzle.
Asahi Linux is a project focused specifically on the hardware enablement needed to get Linux working on M1 and M2 Macs. Fedora Asahi Remix takes that work and puts into Fedora KDE to give you the rest of the desktop experience. (1/3)
The parts that relate to Asahi are on a different release time table. Asahi features will release when they're ready. It's only the parts that come from Fedora KDE that will sync with the broader release schedule of Fedora Linux 40. (2/3)
As of now the expectation for Asahi-specific features and Fedora Asahi releases is the same as before - it will be out when it's ready. They are not working on the same schedule as the Fedora Project except for what they pull from upstream (Fedora KDE). (3/3)
Tagging @AsahiLinux in case we missed something. 😅
