So someone figured out an exploit through Blizzard's website to allow you to purchase skins for Overwatch 2 that are normally unavailable. Essentially, someone on Blizzard's side forgot to disable them and people discovered them by fooling around with the URLs. You still are very much paying for them with real money, not getting them for free or anything like that.

There's some fear that this will result in accounts being banned but I doubt it. This is an oversight by someone on their team, not something like item duplication. Also, the people who are buying these are the very people that make up the backbone of Overwatch's revenue, I would imagine. I'm sure Blizzard will be happy to wake up to a sudden influx of cash this morning.

I bought what looks to be an unused or dummied out development item that doesn't actually show up anywhere in game that I've seen. At this point, it's basically just a weird looking "TBD" type license on my account. I was just too curious to not give it a shot.

Anyways, I spent way too much money on Mercy skins this weekend.

since it's vacation i'm actually up late enough to watch the Overwatch Champion Series JP region matches...the best team (VARREL) isn't playing tonight, but the meme team (NameKuji Brothers) is. NKB is running a comp with Roadhog and Lifeweaver. It has not been working out, but their dedication to it is...admirable :blobfoxlaughsweat:

season 9 has been good to me--reached Platinum 5 on tank last night, and I'm currently on an 8 game winning streak :blobcatmelt: :ablobcatrainbow:

janejana,

The competitive progress screen change is a big improvement over the old system (of course, the "new" screen is much more similar to OW1's progress screen lol).

The only thing that annoys me is some of the phrasing they use when explaining large gains/losses. Some are obvious--"expected" and "uphill battle" for indicating you were favored to win or more likely to lose, but i'm not sure what "volatility" and "calibration" refer to. :blobcatthonking: I'm guessing they have something to do with matchmaking uncertainty but beyond that... :blobcatshrug:

I forgot the Overwatch League playoffs started TODAY :blobfoxshocked: Luckily found out in time to see my hometown team win their first match.

Despite the many, many problems regarding Overwatch and its pro league, I have a lot of fond memories from the league's launch--Boston was one of the cities that had a team, and there were official watch parties and live events to attend. It kind of felt like having a little game convention every week at the local bar tbh, and was a really fun vibe that I've not experienced since the pandemic began :(

Some friends and I made plans to have an online watch party for the rest of the weekend. The league is probably disbanding after this season b/c it's comically mismanaged so this is probably the last time we'll get together like this...it's a little sad to think about.

janejana,

I haven't really missed Twitter until these OWL playoffs tbh. The commentary getting crossposted to reddit is :firemc: :firemc: lmao.

Anyway, with Hangzhou Spark looking insanely good their first two matches...it would be poetic if the last remaining Chinese team won the last season of OWL. Boston is my team, but I wouldn't be mad if Spark won it all.

janejana,

*Flux-Artillery is such an obviously great ult combo it's kind of a wonder Sigma was off the radar for so long...

Friend mentioned how different pro meta is from ladder. Comp's been Orisa or Zarya with Bastion in pretty much every match, but the playoffs only Boston's played Orisa and the one team playing Zarya literally just switched off because they were getting ROLLED lmao*

janejana,

I'm not sure the text/spoiler blur even works if you're viewing on a non-Misskey/Firefish instance, and i'm not sure there's enough (any? lol) interest in to merit spoiler warning the playoffs...but i like that blur exists so i'll keep using it.

*Shoestring budget playoff formatting means Boston and London had to play each other twice, which sucked for London as Boston was the only team that figured out how to beat their Rein/Sym composition with consistency. That said, the previous matches were close enough that I was worried London would finally figure a way to contain Decay's Genji (more specifically, his ults) or take advantage of the aggressive positioning from Leejaegon's Lucio...and while they did improve at both of those things, it wasn't enough for them in the end. Smurf is just too good of a tank player.

Feeling pretty good about Boston's chances to win it all; their first match against Hangzhou was close and I think with a day to analyze what happened, they'll be able to turn a rematch in their favor. Florida looks unstoppable but tbh I think they've had the easiest bracket and in the tank position Smurf is a near match for Someone--perhaps less flexible, but his mastery over the Tanks That Matter and understanding of win conditions is unparalleled.*

Still trying to get over the fact that by Sunday night, OWL will be over. I can't imagine, given how this season has been handled, than a majority of teams will vote to continue the league. In some ways, it's a blessing, given how vile Blizzard as a corporation has become, and how many of their decisions regarding the pro scene actively hindered the actual players and casting talent in putting on a decent show every season...but the pre-Covid years, when Overwatch was at its most popular, the local OWL watch parties were special and fostered a wonderful community feel that's never quite returned and probably never will. :blobcatoh:

janejana,

busting out my official Boston Uprising merchandise for the last time--Johnny Cupcakes is a local t-shirt design shop that made a promotional Uprising shirt that you could get at a team meet-and-greet weekend event at their store. I have no idea how many they produced, though.

I wonder how many people who attended in 2019 are still into Overwatch. Most of that 2019 team isn't! 🫠

(marked sensitive b/c it's a selfie lol)

janejana,

They're doing a show match between OW content creators on a new Control map, Samoa. Wasn't announced beforehand, so this is kinda cool :WOWZA:

...I know show matches are just for fun but watching people int b/c it's "funny" is pretty frustrating to watch. Map's nice tho, putting a jump pad in the middle of the objective and a lava environmental hazard is......inspired.
