It's clear to me now that owning just a single is not realistic. It's more sensible to own ALL of them.

But how do you seamlessly move between them, keeping your saves and states?

Enter "Syncthing": https://syncthing.net/

Syncthing is available just about everywhere and keeps folders in sync between devices. I've just spent a few days getting this configured on my devices and it works (mostly) great!

Read on for some tips...

Ordered the #Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. Then got impatient realizing it would take like a month to get here. So I may have accidentally also ordered the #Anbernic RG35XX+. :game_boy:

Irresponsible? Yes. But I do think they have distinct purposes. The gameboy-ish size of the rg35xx is super pocket friendly. Should be great for playing #Pokemon at the gym between sets.

But it seems the RP4p can handle #GameCube and #PS2 emulation with almost no issues.

What should I play on each?

Busting through this year's spooky #Halloween game... #Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow on the Nintendo DS (played on a #Retroid Pocket 2S).

It's a great sequel to Aria of Sorrow, and can thankfully be played single screen. The touch screen stuff feels a bit gimmicky, but works okay.

Best of all is that cozy feeling of gradually exploring a massive castle, figuring out how to get places, getting new powers.

I think #Metroidvania games might by my gaming comfort food.

I have it on good authority that are kind of good.

(EDIT: Had to look up how to beat the final boss. Can't say I'd have ever thought to do that against its arms... Will try again later.)

My first hours with the Pocket 2S reminded me how easy setting up a was... Starting from scratch, having to install standalone emulators, doing far more config than any sane human should have to do...

But I finally got there, and ended up withwhat seems like a really nice device. Comfortable to hold, really excellent sticks and triggers, it runs everything up to and really well, and even a few games.

Now to actually play something...

Anyone here use the #Retroid Pocket 2+?

I'm trying to find a good CRT shader for #RetroArch to preserve transparency effects (like the waterfalls in Sonic 2) and dithering. The problem is, a lot of shaders that are lightweight enough (easymode, lottes-fast, etc.) don't seem to do the trick, the ones that work well (sonkun, royale) are too heavy for the hardware, and some that might be solid contenders are made for 1080p+ resolutions and create giant, goofy scanlines at 480p.

The #handhelds are so easy with the lcd-v2-color shaders, but finding a good CRT shader for home console #emulation has been tough with this device.
