@OkayKay I've spent many Christmases on my own (not really by choice, but it is what it is) and I've got a fairly well established set of tradition at this point:
cook lasagna and brownies for dinner (except this year I ran out of butter) with my favorite sparkling grape juice to drink
This year I expect that to involve reading #WheelOfTime (I'm on book 12, hoping to finish the series by the end of the year) and listening to some good #ChristmasMusic
Today, December 24, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by a number of ghosts who teach him about the perils of hoarding money, raising rents, and abusing employees (The Muppet Christmas Carol, 1992)
There was a poll that stated—Rowling’s opening line in the HP series is one of best in the world. Someone posted about how there are a bunch of other opening statements that are better.
Here’s one of my personal favorites, from Gabriel Garcia Marquez (in English):
“It is inevitable — the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.”
Come to think of it... even though #TheMuppetChristmasCarol doesn't exactly have an opening line, the first few sentences of actual narration are a strong start:
(Gonzo) "Hello! Welcome to The Muppet Christmas Carol! I am here to tell the story."
(Rizzo) "And I am here for the food."
