Trump Says He'd Prefer To Live In The South Of France

My search into the lost King's Field Mobile games.

King's Field is mostly known as the precursor to what ended up being the Dark Souls series. Featuring hard gameplay, unforgiving traps, weak weapons and an extremely hard difficulty and depressive setting. The KF games are also where the Moonlight Sword originates from. Personally, I love the series. I've beaten nearly all of...

Turns out, Yahoo's purchase of Tumblr in 2013 (wow, that was ten years ago) was even WEIRDER than anyone thought. They wanted it to be "the next PDF"? How does that even make any SENSE? Classic case of corporate foolishness. Buying something they don't even understand, and then wrecking it for no reason other than they could.

Reject corporate garbage.

The purple bar is the most interesting one. I was at Yahoo! during the height and decline (2005-2015) and met some of the smartest and most friendly people while there (like @jrconlin). I still have many friends there and have worked with some since leaving Yahoo!.

All because of what... I donno, some mailing lists? Of course! Because nothing spells out malicious mail traffic more than some geeks sharing questions and answers, right? And not by any chance that wave of spam or aggressive email marketing (sic), right?

I’m old. I remember this.

#Hotmail turns 27 today.

On July 4, 1996 Hotmail service was founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith and was one of the first webmail services on the Internet.

Just 18 months later, Microsoft bought the company for $400 million worth of Microsoft stock.

@davidbisset Oh wow! I think #Hotmail was the very first email service that I used. I actually hated email because of it! 😂 #Yahoo & #Outlook were next.

Hotmail only gave me 2 megabytes of space, while Yahoo gave me 4 megabytes & I had 25 megabytes via Outlook (which my job at the time used). Then #Gmail came out with 1024 megabytes (a whole gigabyte!!!) & I have been with the latter ever since.

So... did #Canada just outlaw Google in practice?

One thing is for certain, it seem all #socialmedia platforms and search engines owned by "media companies" (aka #MicroSoft, #Google, #Yahoo etc) will have to block all links to news articles in Canada or lose a shit ton of money.

Especially damaging for search engines of course, since now Canadians won't be able to search for news articles outside of the news companies own sites since all other links will be blocked.

kristian, to random

Why should I use instead of browser?

aspensmonster,

@kristian Echoing others:

Why not to use :

  1. Brave is based on Chrome. Contributing to Google's hegemony across the web is, in my opinion, a Bad Thing.
  2. Brave have associated themselves with various cryptocurrency projects/schemes/shenanigans, which, in my opinion, is another Bad Thing.

Why to use :

  1. The only non-Chrome browser left standing in the way of total Google hegemony, which is, in my opinion, a Good Thing.
  2. Makes greater efforts to respect users' privacy. E.g., none of the v3 manifest shenanigans, far less phone-home activity, DNS over HTTPS / (yes, I know some folks really don't like this) support.
  3. Managed by a non-profit, Mozilla. They're hardly perfect -- being a part of the Non-Profit Industrial Complex -- but I'd rather struggle with them than Google.

Firefox (and ) aren't perfect. And so long as they are dependent upon a massive conglomerate like or or to underwrite their efforts, they won't be. But that, in my opinion, is really up to us to work to fix. If there's any software that people would pay for, and have paid for in the past, it's:

  1. Their operating systems
  2. Their web browsers
hirad, (edited ) to fediverse

Some say #Fediverse is like email. But that’s far from the truth. Mail servers don’t usually block entire mail servers. Imagine #Google bans #Yahoo mail because of some spam or problematic emails. That’s how fediverse is.

The problem is when some providers become "too big to ban" and act maliciously.

For example, due to , basically all use , and .com.

"Infuriating! #Yahoo News tries to tar and feather Mastodon with Discord! Yet, this article is wrong on so many counts!

#Discord is not "distributed". It is a centralized and proprietary service run by Discord Inc. -- who have dropped the ball on moderation."

#Mastodon is decentralized and open source, and individual server admins are very active with #moderation. We put lots of effort into reporting...illegal material."
