I wrote a blog post on how to set up for Python with Click and a whole host of other components.

It took me a few days to get this right. Maybe this will save someone some time.

How media 'flatten' our culture by making for us. @simon hello! I hope it's not too intrusive but I would like to ask you a question?

    In your command line apps, what do you use for application state or config? Does Click have a way to use "global" variables that can be accessed by any class?

    I tried using Traitlets for config objects and command line setup, but I'm still a novice really, and I didn't make good use of its features. I switched to argparse for command line options, but left traitlets in charge of configuration objects.

    cazabon,

    @bloopernova @simon

    click automatically supports setting pretty much any option for any program based on envvars. You can set them in your shell init/rc file and it'll just pick them up and use them -- and you can override them by explicitly providing the option on the command line.

    You can make programs only look at values with a given prefix (to isolate them) or not, you can specify the var names but they have sensible defaults, etc.

    Is it me? Or is 's library overly difficult. It seems like something I would have designed. We can do better.

    Second for You can do about five times as much, with more flexibility and power, in a third of the code. Basically you don't write any boilerplate at all, just describe your options.

    I haven't touched argparse (or optparse, or getopt) in Python in years.

    Getting the Pallets Community Ecosystem set up. https://github.com/pallets-eco Similar to Jazzband https://jazzband.co, this is a place to collect important Pallets/Flask/Click/etc extensions and allow community write access and easier publishing workflows. Still figuring it out. If you are interested in getting a project in, or contributing to a project, please reach out on the Pallets Discord server https://discord.gg/pallets.

    Click 8.1.6 is available on PyPI. It fixes some type annotation issues that caused mypy and pyright to reject common uses of Click's decorators. https://github.com/pallets/click/releases/tag/8.1.6

    Click 8.1.4 released, with a year's worth of bug fixes. Been a while since I've been able to devote attention to it. https://github.com/pallets/click/releases/tag/8.1.4

    Next up is replacing our internal copy of optparse with the new parser I wrote.

    I will show you 2 frameworks that can help you with to solve the following problems:

    1. Avoid overwhelm complex and intimidating API when writing applications. Will use Click to solve that problem.
    2. Allow discoverability. This is very important when you have an application that supports many options or that you haven’t used in a while. That is where Trogon comes handy.
