🧵 1/ My new project: This linen-yarn T-shirt is a memento of my dog, who once got stuck at the bottom with his claw and tore a hole. It's darned in the shape of a yellow beetle. To make the whole thing more harmonious, I'm going to do a few small appliqués elsewhere today. @visiblemending

My wood turning friend is going to try and make me a darning egg, well two of them, one with a handle and one without. She had to Google what a darning egg is; I hope she has success.

My pants needed mending, so that's what I've been doing this evening.

These are the cheapest, crappiest pants available, and I was on the verge of tossing them out when I realised the thigh seams were going.

Saved them from the bin.

I've got loads of socks with holes in them and have been wanting to try darning them. But there's one thing I'm a bit apprehensive about: my feet are very sensitive to uneven textures. For example, toe seams bother me a lot, so I wear most of my socks inside out.

So, I have a question for darners who have sensory sensitivities (or who mend socks for people who do): are there specific darning techniques that produce an especially smooth/flat texture? Probably I will need to do some experimenting anyway to see what works for me and what doesn't, but I'd love to hear tips if you have any.

I'm looking into a darning loom - I mean those thingies, that come with a bunch of hooks that are fixated over a wooden base with an elastic thread (speedweave or whatever they are named).

Are they as useful as they look in the pictures?

I have jeans, that get thin in the thigh area and I'm pondering, what kind of mending would work best. And also - those woven patches look kind of cute ...

Any input more than welcome. Sizes? Yarn (thickness, material)?

Not bad for a first attempt! Spurred on by a comment by @solderandchaos I've decided to up my visible mending game! First attempt with a cheap speed loom.

A slightly scruffy but finished and cast off patch of darning weaved over a piece of cloth.
