Ohio is attempting to ban gender affirming care TODAY.
Media outlets covering the bill have referenced detransitioners supporting the ban, but today on Assigned I'm reporting on an aspect no outlet has mentioned: Even more detransitioners OPPOSED the ban, including the only detransitioned Ohio native to weigh in on either side.
A week ago I asked for questions people wanted addressed in stories about detransitioners, and the two most common question were "How common is detransition?" and variations of "Who counts as a detransitioner?"
Today, on Assigned, I attempt to answer both of these, with a focus on what the published research says and narratives that have been left out of mainstream coverage. I hope you'll read and find it useful.
There's some new qualitative research into detransition, and the researchers found roughly what I expected (and nothing like what the right-wing narratives on detransition would lead you to believe).
Less than half of the people who were interviewed for this study experienced regret. A majority did not identify with their birth sex. Among transfemmes, discrimination leading to temporary detransition was one common archetype. #trans#detransition#news
I'm #transfem and I found it necessary to detransition (pause transition) for a while early in my transition. My wife was hospitalized due to what was ultimately a fatal condition.

A bizarre new detransitioner lawsuit names the entire American Academy of Pediatrics as a defendant and alleges a massive conspiracy led to the plaintiff, Isabelle Ayala, being treated with testosterone therapy after first expressing that she wanted to be a boy at 12, and eventually being treated with testosterone after being hospitalized for suicidality at 14.
"These lawsuits were never really intended as malpractice suits at all. They articulate no legal justification for treating gender-affirming care differently, or even any acknowledgement that this is what they’re proposing to do."
NHS waiting lists and institutional abuse, as well as workplace transphobia and media transphobia are effectively conversion therapy. A ban on conversion therapy will render transphobic medical practcies and political action liable to criminal prosecution.
Needless to say Murdoch media and Tufton Street and at least half the Tory government are not keen...

This is just #TransGenocide because they know the #ECHR would stop them but also would get most of the #EU pissed that people from the #UK seek asylum due to blatant political prosecution...
