🧵 1/2: Hear from the professionals complaining the government has done everything not just to derail but also to keep adding to their costs:
"There isn't a single route that we run that we can do end-to-end on traction" (yes, they use trains, ever smelt those?) and " access charge has increased by 140% since 2010" (oh, the year the came to power!) .
I cannot overstate how "third world" this is looking...

I liked this old school & the safety striping, front basket & milk crate cargo add-on.
At the event last night, I'd say about 1/3 of almost 200 audience had cycled to event - gauging from amount of folks I saw carrying bicycle helmets.

Electric vehicles’ emissions might be lower than those from gas-powered cars, but they come with their own set of environmental challenges, including increased tire pollution and the social & environmental impacts of mineral extraction for batteries.

Ultimately, the most environmentally friendly transportation solution lies in promoting walkable communities and reducing overall transportation needs.

The #climatecrisis & its associated erratic #weather have caused floods across low lying river basins, but elsewhere have deliver #drought conditions.

In #Germany, this has promoted a further decline in #river borne #freight & a move to utilise the roads for #supplychain & #logistics networks.

Its ironic that #climatechange is prompting a shift that make emissions worse, by reducing use of an established #greentransport.

However, such ironies (parallel to the use of air con) are building

🚨ATTENTION TRAIN USERS!
The latest government "cost-cutting" ruse is to persuade you no-one needs ticket offices any more. If you have a moment, make your feelings known to your train company. This is time-sensitive - only 21 days before it closes!
For any of you labouring under the misapprehension that no one uses ticket offices any more, see below - all taken in the last 24 hours (sources RMT and TSSA on the other place)
https://www.rmt.org.uk/campaigns/rail/save-ticket-offices/?preview=true

People queuing at a ticket office at a train station run by South West Rail, taken yesterday. At least three times more people are queuing than are using the machines.
Image of a ticket office at a Great Western Railway ticket office, yesterday. It's absolutely packed.
Removing checkout staff didn't make your groceries any cheaper. Removing staff from the railways won't reduce your ticket price.

Hydrogen powered trains are carrying passengers in Quebec, replacing diesel as fuel. Hydrogen offers a great way to store surplus wind & solar power for later use. There is no good reason for delaying widespread use of this green technology.

Dear Friends,
#ClimateDiary 1/3
PM2.5 (particulate matter, 2.5 micrometers) was 151 at 06:00 when this photo was made. These particles are from #Quebec, #Canada #WildFires. In Quebec the rate of wildfires so far this year is 600x more than average. 160,000 hectares have burned. #Pennsylvania and #NewJersey are at very high fire risk. Risk is added by chances for #DryThunderstorms. They are a feature of #desert climate.

Of course, the irony here is that the , the and all offer clues to a piece of the solution. Improved to support . In the post 1 if you look down the sidewalk you can see a utility pole right in the middle of it. In post #2 in the foreground, you can see it simply ends in a dirt trail. In post #3, at least there is a , but there are no protected .
