I can 1000% recommend the Meross smart garage door opener with HomeKit for anyone looking to open/close/check on their garage door remotely—it’s easy enough to install and works great over the local network with Home Assistant (thanks to HomeKit, even if you don’t have any Apple devices)!
It can work with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri if you’re into that stuff, too.
Personally, I’m just happy to get away from the shady and abusive MyQ (owned by Chamberlain, like most other garage door brands) which is cloud-dependent, has systematically removed features, locked out DIY-ers and smart home enthusiasts by blocking API access, added ads to their app, and partnered with Amazon and Walmart to let them into your garage—eww.
I just asked Siri to turn off the lights in the laundry room, and Siri turned off the lights in my office. I could understand confusing laundry room for living room or something, but the "office" is named just office and has no "room" in it. This has been happening for months now and I don't get why it's still not fixed. I'm nervous for iOS 18's potential to introduce even more HomeKit bugs.
@julipuli#Siri constantly played song Chandalier when I said "Siri, turn on chandalier".
I wonder how many plays on this song are from frustrated #Apple#HomeKit users.
Anyway I found workaround.
I now say "Siri, set chandalier to 100%" and win rate is much higher. (1/2)
For my #HomeKit nerds: is it possible, via app or otherwise, to trigger an automation when an indoor temperature sensor detects a temp that is higher than the current outside temp via weather? I see how to do it with set/specific temps but I’m looking for a way to notify me if I need to get the AC/fans going before it gets too hot.
So far I used #homebridge on a Raspi3 for all my "inofficial" #homekit stuff. Just ordered a #raspi5 to try out #homeassistant for that task…
Any advice? I also ordered the active cooler, but I am unsure if I want a fan… Is it only on if needed? That'd be ok. Also, power supply is a lot more reliable now with USB-C PD, and I can just use one of Ikeas new power supplies, even if I attach an SSD, right?
Umgezogen?
I just spent a rediculous amount of time troubleshooting why I can’t add new devices to HomeKit. I even went so far as to try a different WiFi base station. Either I have the single most esoteric network setup—which isn’t likely—or parts of HomeKit are fundamentally broken. Again. #homekit#apple#smarthome#fail
New improved Siri:
<Office light is off>
Hey Siri, office light
“Should I turn it off or on?”
Turn it on!
“Should I turn it off or on?”
ON! FFS
“I don’t know what to make of that”
<Turns light on manually>
In the meantime, I’ve bought some #SNES style USB pads and a case for the #RaspberryPi 4 #RetroPie. No expectations, because they were cheap AF…🤡 It just didn’t feel right playing those classics on a modern #XBox pad and I have just one…🤷🏻♂️ I want to share the sentiment with my wife and the kids…🥰
After lunch, my dog @miguel_angel left me sitting alone on the couch to go rest downstairs. But as soon as I turned on a #sewing machine using #HomeKit, (which has a suction device like a vacuum that I leave turned on), he ran upstairs as fast as he could into the sewing room and waited to be lifted up to my ironing table in front of the window. He loves looking out that window! #dogs#DogsOfMastodon@sewing
I've been using #homebridge for years with my Wyze smart bulbs, never a problem. Now Wyze and all plugins have just stopped working all of a sudden. Cannot wait for these bulbs to die so I can replace them with true #homekit bulbs and ditch Homebridge. So tired of the "jank".
#HomeKit is broken enough post-update that I must temporarily stand up #HomeAssistant to see if it can work around the problems.
Eg: of my 4 RGB lightstrips, 2 fail to 'hear' updates triggered by Siri or Automations, only updating when the Home app is used to invoke the relevant scene.
If this is an issue with the devices (unlikely) or the Thread network (possible?) Hass won't help. But if it’s bugs in Homekit "central”, as seems likely…?
