Today I was listening to "Stereotomy" by The Alan Parsons Project (1985)

to the North East Ska*Jazz Orchestra again today. This video was filmed for the Asian Ska Community Festival in late 2020;

Which means it would have been either livestreamed or pre-recorded for at the height of the pandemic, possibly for a music festival that took place entirely online. Strange days they were.

strypey,

Continuing my wanderings through Italian one-drop music, here's another live set I'm to, this one is Wicked Dub Division, playing live at the Ostróda Reggae Festival in 2022:

to a set by Khruangbin, recorded for the Pitchfork Live channel;

Hard to categorise genre-wise. Kind of jazzy, kind of psychedelic? The woman who sings plays some pretty funky bass too.

to a song in Cymraeg (Welsh) about one of my favourite hot beverages, Coffi Du by Gwibdaith Hen Frân;

to the Just Mustard live-to-air from the KEXP studio;

Independent radio live-to-airs are exactly the kind of channel I'd love to see publishing on PeerTube as well as (or instead of) SpewTube.

Yesterday I was to a live performance by Chroma, an indie pop band from Cmyru. Great energy and some catchy songs.

The music video to their single I Don't Wanna Go Out illustrates the pressure indie artists are under to increase their "engagement" on DataFarming platforms;

to a track called Mama, from a collaboration where Wicked Dub Division meets North East Ska Jazz Orchestra;

Phat beats and synths, lush instrumental embellishments, and righteous vocal solos. Love it!

to You Can't Kill Me, from the Lene Lovich, from her 1981 album Flex;

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=D6nSSpMoHJE

I stumbled on a cassette of this album many moons ago, and I remember it appealing to my love of the absurd. I reckon Lovich was an influence on later acts like Shakespeare's Sister and The Dresden Dolls.

#Listening to the classic Hole album Live Through This, their second studio album, released in 1994;

strypey,

Speaking of albums full of raw emotions and smooth production, Under the Pink was also released in 1994, by Tori Amos;

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=VCZrvwv4Ixg

The single Cornflake Girl could be seen as an early example of what people are now calling neo soul.

to Pretty on the Inside, the first album by Hole;

https://piped.video/playlist?list=PLcMZN9Ql8_CicgVQOP7NOJ3B2WHZ0dtp2

This is more like it. I often forget that Hole wasn't an all-female band. Guitarist Eric Erlandson founded the band with Courtney Love and co-wrote many of the songs with her. But there's no question that Courtney is the star here, and the RiotGrrrl attitude is all over the first two albums (this and the excellent Live Through This).

to OKGo's 'This Too Shall Pass', and one of the two official music videos:

"You can't stop these kids from dancin'
Why would you want to?
Especially when you're already gettin' yours
'Cause if your mind don't move and your knees don't bend
Well don't go blamin' the kids again"

to Welcome to Paradise by Green Day, from the classic Dookie album:

This came out around the time I left home and moved to another city. I remember feeling like it the theme song of the experience I had over the course of the first few months.

#Listening to Sleep Now in the Fire by Rage Against the Machine, and watching the official video:

https://yewtu.be/watch?v=kl4wkIPiTcY

Not only did Rage and video-maker Michael Moore win their battle with Wall St and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani that day, they arguably inspired the Occupy Wall St movement a decade later. Two decades later, Giuliani is facing racketeering charges as the crooked lawyer for President Orange, like some Mafia Consigliere.

My Black Hole Mini has a frequency response of 16Hz to 24KHz. Listening to these well-resolving , I sometimes got the impression that many and engineers seem to have either an inadequate environment or insufficient capacity. Because many of the in my have unpleasant above the 7/8KHz region that should have been tamed during mix or mastering. 😲😵‍💫
