I can't read. I know how.
It's BOOKS I can't read ( #ADHD End of Story)
At risk of sounding like a broken record... #Audiobooks are a breakthrough for me
I'm completing this book now, worth a read/listen #Recommended#Reading#Listening
The #1 New York Times Bestseller that shows why slowing down is the key to getting ahead
When was the last time you listened to someone, or someone really listened to you?
Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it's making us lonelier,...
Is anyone listening to the audio #book version of Making It So by Sir Patrick Stewart?
Besides the fact he could read me the phonebook, his narration is glorious storytelling. I can imagine sitting next to him, anywhere on the planet, listening to him share these stories.
He shares tales during his time working on Dune, which are, well, David Lynch worthy. And! You will gain a strong appreciation of all the times Shakespeare figured into Star Trek TNG plots.
elder's rest
nothing but the sound
of shifting sands
Last week, in the "Elder's Rest" article, I wrote about restlessness, silence, listening, and speech in the context of meditation as well as relationships. It was inspired by a pithy saying regarding speech by one of the Desert Mothers and Fathers, the first Christian nuns and monks dwelling in deserts.
Tonight's #listening from the vault: Fields of the Nephilim - The Nephilim
It's late '80s goth metal named after mythical half-angel "giants" from the bible, so how bad could it be? It's actually maybe a little better than I remember (which is to say, it is good) as I think I thought it was a little dense at the time and not quite my vibe (yes, I listened to this when it was new and so was I), but I did spin it from time to time.
OK, my first attempt at #listening start to finish to Atum, Billy Corgan's 38 track masurbatorium, vomited up in chunks over the last couple of years. Wish me luck!
Context; I love Siamese Dream and Zeitgeist and quite like Gish, and bits and pieces of Mellon Collie (although the album as a whole I find pretentious and tedious).
Thesis: Corgan makes amazing music when working in dynamic tension with other musicians, and self-indulgent junk the rest of the time.
One of the ways you know a podcast has truly made it is when the host has done enough episodes to be able to provide numerous cross references to past episodes for deeper context or more nuance
Two good examples of this phenomenon I'm listening to right now are the "History of Japan" podcast and "The Zen Studies Podcast."
Currently #listening to @radiofreefedi and damn, I forget how great this is! Eclectic vibes, great tunes, no fucking commercials! Good stuff.
I think tonight I'll do an hour worth of live reactions to #RadioFreeFedi, see what kind of cool shit we can discover. Follow that hashtag if you want to follow along. Or (temp) mute it if you'll be annoyed by heavy posting about music for an hour...
