Let's see what a $25 PC 8801 mkii looks like. It came wrapped in a Japanese newspaper, it has the cardboard drive inserts and most of the plastic port caps. All of which are good signs. đ At some point it had an expansion card that is no longer with the system. #retrocomputing#pc88#nec
@ipxfong reminds me of my 1st PC, an old 8088 â a used Goodwill find that I had to slowly upgrade, learning all the while. I miss those days. Good luck! đ

I couldn't resist checking out the NEC APCIII a little bit. It's got what looks like a multi-serial card and a HDD (maybe 10 whole megabytes). Some of these ran System III UNIX. Maybe this was a multi user system? Also in a miraculous twist of fate, the CMOS battery hasn't leaked! #nec#retrocomputers#pc98
Another garage find. This is an NEC APCIII. It's the US version of the pc9801. It runs MS-DOS but it has a different BIOS and a high resolution CGA adjacent display. So most DOS software is unlikely to work. Why do I have it? I don't know. I think I picked it up because it was weird and in the days before retro was cool, it was really cheap. Hopefully I'll have some time to tear it down and clean it up next weekend. #retrocomputing#nec#pc98#retrocomputer
