I've only read two days of @piggz's #ofono blog - he's upstreaming #SailfishOS changes to ofono to make future downstream updates easier - and I'm already looking forward to Day 3!
Sailfish OS 4.5.0.25 now available. This update only includes a revised EULA and thus prepares for the upcoming 4.6.0 Sauna release.
For older devices (Jolla C, Tablet, Gemini PDA, Xperia X), 4.6.0 will be the final update.
Also: changes to payment handling on Jolla Shop & predictive text input issue for new #SailfishX license buyers, currently being resolved.
⛵ Jolla | Premium mobile OS (Sailfish X) makers bring a new device 📲
An AI powered one - described at this early stage as "private & secure blackbox for your life".
"We don’t believe it’s a good model to put AI run locally here in the phone. It’s not secure. You can never make smartphones secure enough for that. We believe that in this AI era privacy becomes much more important." ~Antti Saarnio / Jolla
@linmob sadly those newer versions of #SailfishOS don't support #Jolla original phone the Jolla-C, the #xperia path seems like when a new model is supported, then that model already has reached the end of it's sales, so you can't get a device unless you buy some half broken one on ebay.
Does anyone know of a modern #Android phone which allows call recording without root?
I'm currently on an aging 5T running #LineageOS and can record calls just fine - a button in the dialler lets me record straight from the line. I don't need to put it on speaker and record via the microphone.
(Looking for 1st hand experience, not search results. No need to reply to discuss the legality of call recording. I need root-less for online banking etc.)
@Edent#SailfishOS (which is Linux + Android compatiblity layer) can record calls out of the box. No experience with online banking apps, but I heard some are working, some aren't.
After reading this praise I installed #SailfishOS and it's true: It exceeds my expectations by far. It feels very usable, complete and secure. Its @nextcloud and #XMPP integration are just the features I need.
Probably the best mobile Linux we have right now. And yes, you need to pay for it. So it looks like quality arises when you pay people for their work.
Android 14 changed the color of the low battery icon from red to white.
Recently, for some reason, I've stopped getting "Battery low" notifications at very low percents...but I still get them at 30% & 25% (I have it set to start at 30%).
...so now I rarely notice when my phone is about to die. This has interrupted me on so many occasions.
My hatred of Android has been growing exponentially lately.
@Lehmanator I have used #SailfishOS as my daily driver for years. Easy to install on an open Sony Xperia handset. Not janky at all. Smooth and straightforward. All modern conveniences, no spyware.
I have used many other Linux phones and other alternatives too over the years and SFOS is hands down the best. Don’t waste your time. With Sailfish you don’t need to sacrifice quality or ease by switching to #MobileLinux and you own all your data.
I blogged about it here
