Little brother has been using a 2015 macbook air family computer to play minecraft; today he tried out portal, and seemed to like it. So I've decided that I'm turning my old laptop (which was previously being used as a server PC, but I don't really need it for that any more) into a kind of steam console thingy that'll sit by the TV. Running linux on it, of course, with plasma 6, and steam big picture set to open at startup. He doesn't have a steam account but I'll set one up and then steamshare some of my games, and throw in a bluetooth keyboard/mouse plus an old ps4 controller of mine that I found in a giveaway pile on the side of the street a bit ago.
The next #SteamOS update has launched on the stable branch, and it finally brings us the Persona 3 Reload performance improvements on #SteamDeck...and a ton of bug fixes.
Did anyone else notice that SteamOS began to record playtime for non-Steam games recently, or is this something that came with one of my Decky :steamdeck: Steam Deck plugins?
PC desktop setups vary almost as much as there are users..
◉Steam Deck's smooth success & support is largely based on the fact its users have 100% known hardware on their hands
◉Could it be that Valve brings Steam OS for desktop via some sort of "Steam OS Verified Hardware" solution?
◉Ones PC scanned during installation / given a rating?
I want to write a blog post or something documenting how using Flathub on Steam Deck desktop looks and works, but I don’t have a Steam Deck. Sounds like I just justified buying one!
This new Dock by @jsaux? Despite some minor flaws, it might be their best product yet. It turns out to be the best :steamdeck: Steam Deck Dock on the market right now, offering HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4, VRR, and ALLM. Using it for my MBP as daily driver now, which tells you something. 👀
Going with #HoloISO doesn't seem like it would make much sense to me. As far as I understand it is something like an unauthorized derivative of #SteamOS so you'd be putting yourself at Valve's whims without Valve okaying it and no voice at all in the development process.
I like getting the dev team of an open distro involved, I guess #ChimeraOS might have been better if they fit that description as well though.
