Think to have pinpointed the folded asphalt that formed in close south to the small fissure. That is another sign there is some (extension with a component) going on. Same as the en-echelon steps in the . Orientation of Maximum horizontal in the order of 050-230.

And a picture showing 'en-echelon' (stairways, overlapping) cracks. Just as the large fissures: they are discontinuous, subparallel segments of a larger fault/shear zone underneath. .

Just wondering about those people worried about cancel culture:

If you set everything nice to be funded by private donations exclusively, isn’t becoming canceled exactly what you ordered for?

You wanted this.

You set things up to be blown by the whims of individuals, media and the likes of wealthy donours exclusively.

I'm saying compare the as to whether to search this landfill to the history of similar choices made by the same , rather than to other decisions made by different authorities (cities, provinces).

The are significant. has really poor qualities. People are every year when the hole they're digging in a landfill while looking for collapses.

re: cost - consider as well.

I’m saying 3 landfillls were searched in Toronto and no expense was spared because the guy was white.

Yeah, agreed! Toronto is bigger and has more money flowing through it (millions of folks vs around half a million IIRC), but those are the only two differences that I can see, and the 2nd one is remedied by asking and inviting the feds (or even another province) for help/to help.

    @cazabon

I'm saying compare the #decision as to whether to search this landfill to the history of similar choices made by the same #authorities, rather than to other decisions made by different authorities (cities, provinces).

Sure. (Not sure why, actually, that it makes sense to limit the decisions just to the ones made by Winnipeg, but for the sake of argument...)

But I wasn't familiar with past WInnipeg cases. When did Winnipeg ever agree to do a landfill search before for remains of someone that was an indigenous woman?

The #hazards are significant. #Refuse has really poor #structural qualities. People are #killed every year when the hole they're digging in a landfill while looking for #valuables collapses.

That may be so, but the article about the report regarding the process (which I indirectly linked to) points out how it can be done far more safely. Granted, it doesn't say zero risk, but the conveyor belt idea is a stroke of genius.

They know this for certain because some traces were found in the bins, ... because they suspect - but have no proof

Makes sense. Like, if I had lost a hard disk containing millions of dollars worth of bitcoin, and the above was the difference in odds, then I'd likely just give up and not even try in the latter case, with those kind of odds.

Considering what's at stake here though, if those odds were the only difference, then I'd say it's still a lead worth pursuing.

An MIT student asked AI to make her headshot more ‘professional.’ It gave her lighter skin and blue eyes.
“I was like, ‘Wow, does this thing think I should become white to become more professional?’” said Wang, who is Asian American.

@meredithw @Wolven I think social sciences could actually use ”jailbroken” LLM’s (without the guardrails making them civic) to construct quantitative proof models pointing out the many forms in a clear & reproducable manner.

I find there’s not enough branches in the . Economy is one, but they like to think they’re not a behavioral science. Tsk.

All those tech bros and press and influencers thought they could dismiss the Fediverse because is “hard” and doesn’t have quoted posts.

They think with a little Silicon Valley money and magic they can beat us.

Well, everyone in the NBA thought they could beat the Bulls until Dennis Rodman joined the team. We know how that went.

is the Dennis Rodman of the Fediverse.

    jo,

@atomicpoet I think whatever we become we'll really only have 'succeeded' if leads the way with ahead of features and scale.

    The Calckey I see would

    • have a diverse team of folks that has the time to listen to the safety discourses, and the lived experience to know why safety matters, and informs their decisions.
    • make importing or integrating third party tools easypeasy, so no user finds themselves on an new server that's open to dogpiled by the worst elements of the .
    • have robust features that are as important to promote as and .
    • have granular user controls for - opt-in & opt-out; and features - like turning down/off MFM when it's overwhelming without a user needing to resort to CSS scripts.
    • not really care to be a birdsite or alternative. Let's work to be a better secret third thing, or fourth, or fifth thing.

If we really have to duplicate the big influencer account thing, I'd like to see more non-White, autistic, disabled, queers, and women voices. They're here, but they're often forced to be critics of a newer hegemony. Let's be listening for how can Calckey become the main service of choice for Black, POC and Indigenous women to join, spin up servers, become developers, and have prominent voices on. The rest of the good stuff will follow that.

I think we can do that, but only if we prioritise, and promote minority voices, and do the structural work to support them coming to the service.
