At the end of Black History Month in February, the Dekalb County branch of the NAACP reported that an important historical marker had been stolen from Lithonia, a majority-Black eastern suburb of Atlanta. The marker had been erected in 2021.

Our city, and the South as a whole, is fighting against "Lost Cause" white supremacist propaganda in order to achieve a wider, clearer understanding of the past. There has been resistance and racist backlash to that resistance: the grotesque carving of Confederate generals that defaces neighboring Stone Mountain is the most prominent example. Whoever stole the Lithonia sign hates that progress towards truth and desperately wants to erase Black history from our shared story. They will fail. We, and everyone else who stands against racism, will make sure they fail.

Here is the text of the marker.

"Mob Violence in Lithonia: After Reconstruction was abandoned in 1877, white mobs from Lithonia terrorized the Black community through lynchings that denied Black people their constitutional rights and equal protection under the law. On July 27, 1887, a white mob from Lithonia lynched Reuben Hudson near the Georgia Railroad stop in Redan. Mr. Hudson lived in Covington but worked in Redan. On July 26th, a white woman in Redan reported being assaulted by a "short and heavy set, and very black" man. Low on train fare that day, Mr. Hudson walked 11 miles from Redan to Conyers and boarded a train closer to home. A conductor presumed Mr. Hudson fit the woman's description and had him arrested in Covington. The next morning, as police officers escorted Mr. Hudson back to Redan by train, an angry mob of white men boarded at Lithonia, intent on lynching him. Though legally required to protect Mr. Hudson, the officers handed him over to the mob in Redan without resistance. Despite his pleas of innocence, the mob dragged and tortured Mr. Hudson before hanging him to a tree. Five years later, on April 2, 1892, a white mob from Lithonia began to chase two unidentified Black men after a young white girl reported an assault. When the mob returned to Lithonia without the men, it was reported that "it was generally understood that they were lynched." Despite a functioning legal system in DeKalb County, mob participants were not held accountable for these lynchings."

The racist/fascist organization Patriot Front used this land for a training event, and several PF members live there. The land is run by a self-proclaimed "tribe" of racist heathens, led by longtime neo-Nazi Brian Culpepper. Ian Elliott, a PF member and adherent of the "Aryanity" cult, also plays a large role in the "Aryan Tribal Land."

Atlanta Antifascists stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine. We condemn all targeting of civilians in war, no matter what nationality or religion. We have no sympathy for Hamas, whose original (1988) charter was unambiguously antisemitic, and whose slaughter of civilians is abhorrent. We also broadly believe in the Palestinian right to self-determination. As US citizens, we recognize that many of the weapons currently killing Palestinian children were supplied by our government, and believe that all US citizens have the same moral duty to oppose US-funded state terrorism and war crimes by Israel.

The recent murder of a Palestinian-American 6-year-old by an Islamophobe underlines how important it is to fight against the dehumanization of Palestinians and of the broader Muslim community. Media coverage and misinformation surrounding the war has contributed greatly to this dehumanization. In our long experience fighting fascism and the far right, we have seen how antisemitism and Islamophobia are highly complementary. Both forms of hatred have been stirred by the war. The neo-Nazi side of the spectrum exploits the war to demonize all Jewish people; they use the fight for Palestinian liberation as a ruse to push their antisemitic agenda against those they perceive as the greater threat, in this case the Jewish community. But make no mistake, they privately treat Palestinians as subhuman and plot to murder Arab immigrants. The Christian Zionist side of the spectrum pretends to care about antisemitism, but their vision of Palestinian genocide is connected to a fundamentalist eschatology in which all Jewish people will convert to Christianity or be sentenced to hell.

We believe that both strains of the far right must be fought at the same time, and we will continue to do so. In the short term, we encourage supporting mutual aid efforts for Palestinian civilians. This month, two neo-Nazi groups, Blood Tribe and the Goyim Defense League, are planning a large rally in #Florida. Blood Tribe and the GDL have not publicly released the rally date but over the Labor Day weekend seems likely. Comments on the Telegram messaging application suggest that the neo-Nazi rally will take place in or near Orlando.

Today, we are exposing the leader of the "Dixie" regional division of Blood Tribe, who has been marshaling his forces for the Florida rally.

Steven Jason Parr presently lives in Athens, Georgia with his wife but hopes to eventually move to Maine, where Blood Tribe’s leader has purchased land. Before he became a fully-fledged neo-Nazi, Parr was an active Proud Boy in Georgia.

As we document in our article, Parr frequently posts about violence and has a history of harassment. We hope #AthensGA residents will circulate this information and warn about Parr. We also seek further details about Parr's work -- he has mentioned working on air conditioning but we do not presently have a company name.

Last week, we removed stickers from the white nationalist National Justice Party (NJP) around Piedmont Park in Atlanta. Others had removed some of the NJP propaganda before we even arrived.

While we removed most of the racists' stickers, there may be a few stray ones we missed, so keep an eye out if you're in the area.

This evening, the neo-Nazis of the "Goyim Defense League" (GDL) held Nazi flags and sieg heiled outside a synagogue in East Cobb (metro Atlanta) in an attempt to intimidate the community. The GDL is a decentralized neo-Nazi group whose main figure is livestreamer and Nazi provocateur Jon Eugene Minadeo II of Florida (by way of California). The GDL has active adherents around the US.

The GDL has been on trip across Georgia, with neo-Nazis from both Florida and Georgia distributing GDL propaganda. Minadeo was arrested yesterday in Bibb County but was soon released on bail:

GDL appearances outside of places like synagogues are provocations used to collect donations via livestreams. Few (if any) of these people are local to Cobb. Michael Weaver is a longtime neo-Nazi in Bartow County who is a highly visible GDL participant and distributor of their propaganda:

When faced with the spectacle of neo-Nazis, it is important to remember a few things: (1) These are fringe individuals who are unpopular, but it is a problem when they feel emboldened enough to attempt intimidation. (2) The law and government will not and cannot stop them. (See for example cops standing around tonight. Even yesterday when there was a token arrest, the Nazis quickly went back to their harassment campaign.) (3) Community self-defense is how we can protect each other. These Nazis all have names, addresses, family members, and sometimes jobs. There are ways to increase the social consequences for anyone doing neo-Nazi activism. Creating blowback so that their employers, families, neighbors, and landlords know about what they are up to is both effective and a bare minimum for what we can all do.
