Massive science stuff happening . I ordered Professor Dugatskin book. The well Connected animal! https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/W/bo212549914.html
On a side note
Here’s one for you I think you will find fascinating and quite enjoyable and relatable.
I like the authors playful but candid style of writing.
Camilla Pang, a computational biologist, cancer researcher and writer :)
Nice! That looks like some really good reading right there. I have not read the Bergstom textbook, but I am fortunate enough to have copies of both Strickberger's and Futuyama's textbooks at home and I really enjoyed both. It's such a fascinating subject.
@aggualaqisaaq@ct_bergstrom@bookstodon
A professor reccomended Professor Neil Shubin books as well. I’ve read all three and it really gave me a better perspective on life. Neil Shubin “Your inner fish”. Sooo much fun!
On a side note. I bought a mountain bike at a yard sale for 5 dollars it’s a GIANT made Rincon I think it says it’s a custom. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/ee/rincon-1-2022
Fixing the tire and oiling the chain… and gears do I need special oil?
@EVDHmn If you want to go down a rabbit hole: https://zerofrictioncycling.com.au/ tldr; Assuming the chain hasn’t worn too much, almost any “wet” lube from a bike shop should be fine. Muckoff products should be avoided. If you want the longest life, waxing a new striped chain is they way to go, but the most complicated.

I ran across these articles, I thought it may helpful for future scientists and educators, perhaps a alternative frame for others
In which direction do you think the field should go? What influence do you want to see more of? And how much should you let your own personal preferences and interests guide your decision?
@lydiaschoch@actuallyautistic@actuallyadhd glad you liked it! 🥰It’s one of my all time favorites, it carried me well through a lot of soul searching moments, especially when I have been trying to figure something out, so I thought some others may relate.
Does anyone else start the day by seemingly hours to find a groove to roll on?
It’s like my mind is trying to tune in my body and brain, and brain and body is like, “no no, not yet be patient”, some days at best it’s like trying to watch life with noise. I know some have it worse. 🤷♀️
Its not like I feel horrible, I’m more then a bit 🥱. I slept plenty. Lots of socializations yesterday I forget sometimes, even if I’m enjoying myself I pay for it.
@masukomi
Yeah I started spinning up six hours ago. 😭…I’m still in spin state… like a record player with no needle…
I used to read in the early morning that helped me tons sort of wake up and sync. I’ve been trying to do that again,(notices things aren’t sinking in), exe function is waaayy dysfunctional today.
@EVDHmn yeah, i hear that. Some days be like that. I will admit, that in my case ADHD meds definitely helped to minimize that spin-up time to about an hour...but some days even those don't help.
I think it's very important to give yourself grace on days like today. Banging your head against the wall won't soften the wall up. It'll just hurt your head. Embrace the idea that some days work just isn't going to happen, & allow yourself to wander off & recharge. Be available on slack or whatever
Would any of you be interested in doing a weekly audio conference? I have organizer stTus on meetup could do audio and discuss how everyone is doing checkins, talking science, or what it’s like for you personally in the world coping ?
Perhaps zoom audio, no judgements safe spaces etc over the internet ? Discords etc
The best we can do one day at a time - that's it. We're all figuring this out somehow along the way. Some days are better than others, sometimes everything's a mess.
@Sci_Fi_FanGirl@actuallyautistic
I’m looking for those who have managed to find some kind of balance, obviously much comes from experience.
Some in academia, some careers or countries doesn’t always allow all of our peers to be open.
Regardless I wish them the best as well. I hope one day they can be themselves and feel comfortable and safe.
For all of us to be accepted, for a better world.
It’s my autism acceptance month wish! 🥰😅
Diversity is the solution to almost every answer.♾️💜
