I'm very concerned about this seven-month graph of Mastodon's MAU, for the sake of both Mastodon and the fediverse.

To be honest, I don't love any of my current ideas for changing this picture.

I'd be grateful for anyone sharing their own ideas that could move the needle on growing the fediverse (i.e. Mastodon and/or other platforms). @spreadmastodon

I know people like calling DeSantis a smarter Trump, but I’m not so sure about that if he’s spending a lot of his time fighting with a popular conglomerate of entertainment and theme parks.

I’ve been struggling to spend much time on Mastodon lately because my feed is >50% discussion of Bluesky

Seeing them makes me feel a terrible cocktail of:

  • FOMO for not having an invite
  • Confusion over why everyone cares so much all of a sudden
  • Fear that the wonderful community I’ve found here on Masto in the last 6 months will die because everyone will leave
  • Existential dread over the immense difficulty of managing a community-governed social media platform

It’s been tough 😖

Ours were black and white, too. And very uniform. Girls with the drape and guys with tuxes.

My husband's is in color, and everyone could just submit their senior portrait. All of them are quite different. And as color-blocked sweaters were all the rage, the photos are very...bright.

    I think if Bluesky had launched in November, I would have been curious. But I've been here for 5 months now and there's been a noticeable change in my physical well-being, including a drop in blood pressure.

    The idea of a recreated twitter experience (with all the drama and mess) holds much less appeal for me now that my body's self-regulation is more stable.

    May a thousand platforms bloom or whatever, I just hope there isn't a mass migration away from here. I'd be sad to lose this place.

    I think that many of the big and/or professional accounts lost their opportunity to establish the alternative to Twitter by staying on the bird site beyond December, and they see the mistake as their audience is now fragmented. I see the push for Bluesky as the opportunity to gather us all up and be their passive audience again.

    And I'm not interested in that.

    Not sure if you saw the thread with Tim Chambers. Something about Blue sky users will have to set controls to not see posts about torture as instances are not allowed to take down content. There was some discussion as to whether this was Bluesky's policy, but it is clear that there is no moderation.

    Not a hard call to make. Mastodon is where I am staying.
