One of them is taken from real life. A freezing river delta like the Lena River in Russia. It's an unmappable half-frozen mess of slushy ponds, frozen mud, permafrost, rivers that shift and flood a little differently each season, and treacherous ice dams.

It's nuts in Star Trek that they postulate nobody would know how to cook anymore bc of replicators. True cooking perverts would love the opportunity to have a kitchen where you could get any quantity of any ingredient instantly, AND (maybe more impressive) any cooking implement.

one of the wildest things I learned reading about the history of the modern state of Israel is there were some who looked down on Holocaust survivors. They saw them as weak, and thought they were the strong ones.
