A programmer with thespian leanings. He/Him. I have a love of laserdiscs and physical media in general. Expect lots of rabbits, nerdiness, video editing, and unhealthy levels of Highlander 2.

I've been having an occasional skipping issue with my player when discs reach the end of side A so thought it was time to open it up for some maintenance.

I couldn't see anything wrong so I mostly just gave everything a good clean, paying special attention to the pickup guide rail. Hopefully it will do the trick!

This thing has seen some abuse. It's had one careful owner...and that's me...I can't say much for the previous owners. It keeps soldiering on though!

LaserdiscTurtle,
@LaserdiscTurtle@mas.to avatar

For those of you who have never seen a player change sides!

It's a crazy design! The whole laser pickup flips to the opposite side of the machine while the disc stops, changes direction and speeds up again.

I assume all the stabilisation hardware built into the pickup made it too expensive to add one for each side. Either way you'd still have to wait for the disc to stop, change direction, and speed up again.

The fact that you search for a YouTube channel's name and the FIRST video result is NOT one from that channel, but a random unrelated recommendation is insane. It breaks the definition of "search"

@LaserdiscTurtle @TheBreadmonkey Final word on Highlander II, Ewan, does your edit include the fairy tale ending?

Ben, if you haven't seen it, YouTube it. OMG! Surely someone should have read that and just said stop. Maybe an executive replied, at least give it a go it might work.

My good friend Grant has generously contributed this frankly epic artwork to serve as a poster for my 2 fanedit.

I hope Highlander 2: Rebuild can live up to it!

It did our hearts a lot of good to see him having so much carefree fun again ❤️

If you want to know more about the mechanical TV that briefly featured in last night's episode then I HIGHLY recommend watching @TechConnectify's excellent video on the topic. He even makes one of his own!

As "Doctor Who" turns 60, it's time to pose that perennial question: Who is the best Doctor of them all? The BBC asked five fans to make their arguments. But which of this quintet do you think is the greatest? Tell us in the comments if your pick isn't on the list (we're fans of Christopher Eccleston).

@CultureDesk Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor is yet to be surpassed in my opinion. He not only sold the concept of regeneration, he's also just so damn loveable.

An animated gif of Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor waving and smiling. The clip is from episode one of "The Enemy of the World"

I posted this on , but thought I'd try posting here as well to see if I can get any more luck.

Tried for years to find something I half remember watching on UK TV in the mid 90s.

The lead character is in an office with his boss. As part of the scene his boss tells him about the famous Chinese story of Zhuang Zhou’s Butterfly Dream.

At some point later the lead character finds a matchbox on the bosses desk, opens it, and a butterfly flies out.

I am so close, SO CLOSE to rescuing one of my most sought after lost medias. I can almost taste it... But I can't talk about it yet. It's driving me slightly mad

@foone Best of luck! I know the feeling! I've located a piece of lost media, verified it's existence...just need to get the right hands on it and get it preserved. Best of luck to both of us in our missions!

I really need to stop going into that shop...

Just bought an almost totally useless portable black and white from 1983!

The is noteworthy for using a side mounted electron gun to give a fairly flat and thin CRT!

No video inputs, but a quick look online and it seems there are ways to force a signal in there either by modding or wrapping an RF cable around the aerial...so sounds like I've got myself another project.

It even comes with the (dead) battery!

The rear of the TV showing the power input and headphone output labels, and a warning message.
The flat lithium battery I found inside. Made by Polaroid these apparently gave around 15 hours of viewing time but were not rechargeable.

Taking a brief break from our marathon for the next few weeks.

Partly because after Logopolis aired there was a break of about a year before the next story, Castrovalva, but mostly because during that break the BBC aired some of my favourite science fiction serials of all time.

and !

Considering my username I should really post more about ; that was kind of my thing over on the other site in the before times.

No idea why I've just not been in the zone lately. I really should sit down and watch some again soon; I've got plenty to pick from!

Moku the rabbit investigates Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version) on laserdisc.
Migi the rabbit looks surprised at the Hot Shots laserdisc.
Migi the rabbit's personal recommendation: Dragonslayer on laserdisc.

Tonight we watched Logopolis Part One.

The Cloister Room and Bell! Teagan! A mysterious Watcher...and a TARDIS within a TARDIS?

So many mysteries all enhanced by a wonderful score from Paddy Kingsland.

I've always enjoyed this classic so I'm looking forward to watching the rest of it throughout the week.
